Collins Gaining Confidence in Recent Times

Collins is olaying in her first event since the French Open where she reached her second Grand Slam quarter-final before bowing out in three sets to Sofia Kenin.

She was drawn against the Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure in the first round of this event, the world 123, and beat her in straight sets, although there were signs of rust, especially in the first set.

Both women struggled to hold serve, and, after forcing break points, Collins finally broke the Belgian in the fourth game. However, she immediately surrendered her own serve, only to break Bonaventure immediately again.

She then had a major struggle to hold her own serve next game, but, after Bonaventure had saved one set point, Collins eventually clinched it 6 -3.

The second set was more one-sided, although Collins was not particularly convincing against a player who was clearly struggling with her game. However, two more breaks of serve enabled her to get the job done in an hour and 17 minutes.

Serb Stojanovic Begins Season with Comfortable Win

Better known as a double’s player, Stojanovic did at least male the main draw of all three Grand Slams that were played for the first time in her career in 2020, having come through qualifying for each. And that has helped her world ranking rise to such a level that she has been granted direct entry into the Australian Open this time round.

She was drawn against the world 128 Maya Sharif of Egypt in the first round and enjoyed a comfortable win in a match that lasted just over an hour.

Serve dominated in the first set, and there was just one break, which the Serb forced in the fourth game, going on to serve out.

She then forced two more breaks in the second set, in a match that saw her own serve barely threatened once.

Collins v Stojanovic Prediction and Tip

There is nothing in Stojanovic’s past or present form to suggest other than this should be a straightforward win for the American. Collins had her struggles in her first round but her game will be the better for the match practice.

Tip: Collins to win: 1/4 (bet365)
