Sofia Kenin v Camila Giorgi Head to Head

Australian Open defending champion and French Open runner-up. Those are two excellent add-ons to one’s resume, especially given both results came in the same year for Kenin. And it was a year where most players lost their bearings because of the pandemic.
Now comes the tougher part. And that is to back her performances up, given coaches and players would be more attuned to her style of play, and the tactics to use against her.
Which is what was on show at the Abu Dhabi Open earlier in January, where Kenin made it to the quarterfinal only to lose to Maria Sakkari. Now Sakkari is a dangerous player in her own right, but to go down 6-2, 6-0 after winning the first set would have brought back memories of what had happened last season.
Facing Victoria Azarenka at the Rome Open, Kenin fell 6-0, 6-0 in her second round match there.
What Kenin would want is for a repeat of what followed after that – a run to the final at Roland-Garros and she starts that journey with a match against the 76th-ranked Giorgi.

Giorgi Wins Error-Strewn Opener
In a match filled with eight breaks of serve, Girogi emerged a straight-set winner over Frenchwoman Clara Burel to set up this meeting with Kenin. She won 6-4, 6-3 in an encounter lasting an hour and 20 minutes.
Giorgi comes into this season without much to show for her efforts last year. She ended 2020 on a positive note, with a 17-13 win-loss record, but her best performance came early in the post-pandemic season when she made it to the semifinal in Palermo.
That was followed by three second round defeats and two opening losses, underlining how difficult things had suddenly become.
Here’s something interesting to note from the previous season for Giorgi. Between her Qatar Open campaign in February and the end of the season, the Italian featured in nine victories and only two of them came in straight sets.
Kenin v Giorgi Prediction and Tip
Kenin has already played four matches on the tour coming into this tournament, which means there should no rustiness for her. That combined with Giorgi’s struggles against top opponents and we could be looking at a straight-set win for the American to kick off the proceedings here.
