Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Anastasija Sevastova Head to Head
We had earlier spoken about the one-sided nature of this match-up and that’s to do with their head to head. These players have faced off seven times in the past and Pavlyuchenkova has won every single time.
This includes one match in the Fed Cup, one on clay and five others on hard court surfaces. Across these seven matches, Sevastova has won a mere two sets so far, and their last meeting came at the 2018 Wuhan Open opener.

Pavlyuchenkova Pushes Past Doi
Having lost her opening round match in the first tournament she played this season, at Abu Dhabi, there might have been some extra nerves for Pavlyuchenkova coming into her opening round match against Japan’s Misaki Doi. That wasn’t how it panned out though, as Pavlyuchenkova crushed Doi in straight sets to move into the second round of this competition in Melbourne.
The world number 39 was quick off the blocks as she broke Doi as early as in the second game and then repeated the same dose four games later. Pavlyuchenkova served out the set but wasn’t done just yet as she got past Doi’s serve yet again in the first game of the second set.
The Japanese player put up a better fight though, even breaking back in the eighth game but Pavlyuchenkova broke back immediately after and completed a straight-set victory with the match lasting a mere 67 minutes.
On paper she now plays a far superior opponent than Doi but Pavlyuchenkova’s stunning record against Sevastova means she starts off with a lot of confidence behind her back.

Sevastova Blasts Brengle to Win with Ease
Much like in the case of Pavlyuchenkova, Sevastova wasn’t made to sweat too much as she completed a straight-set win. While unlike the Pavlyuchenkova match, it was in the first set that Sevastova was left with a lot more of the work, the result wasn’t too dissimilar and the match lasted just 65 minutes in the end.
There was one other difference and that’s what could prove to be of utmost importance for Sevastova.
Despite winning 6-4, 6-2, Sevastova endured four breaks of serve in the entire match, and while she broke Maddison Brengle seven times in turn, this lack of serving prowess could prove to be costly against Pavlyuchenkova.
Especially given there could always be those psychological dents from their previous seven meetings.
Pavlyuchenkova v Sevastova Prediction and Tip
Pavlyuchenkova will be a favourite here, starting out at 4/9 to win this one with a 11/10 for a straight-set victory.
Tip: Pavlyuchenkova to win: 4/9 (bet365)
