Caroline Garcia v Timea Babos Head to Head
This will be the fourth singles contest between the World No. 44 Garcia and the 115th-ranked Babos, with the Frenchwoman leading 2-1.

Garcia Overcomes a Wild Card Entrant
France’s Caroline Garcia got her Gippsland Trophy campaign off to a good start as she defeated Australia’s Arina Rodionova 6-3, 6-4 in the first round on Sunday. The former World No. 4 hit 25 winners and made just 17 unforced errors as she breezed past the Australian wild card in an hour and 20 minutes.
Garcia will be satisfied to have seen off the wild card first up as she was beaten by two wild cards in back-to-back tournaments at the start of the 2020 season.
The 27-year-old Frenchwoman, playing her first tournament since being ousted by Elina Svitolina in the Round of 16 at Roland Garros, didn’t have a great 2020 as she finished with an 11-11 record. It was the first season since 2015 that the 7-time WTA winner failed to win a single Tour title.
Garcia, who reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2017, a year after winning the doubles title at the Paris major with Kristina Mladenovic, will be hoping to carry the momentum against Babos, who herself made a good start in the tournament.

Babos Sends Tig Packing
2020 Australian Open and French Open doubles champion Timea Babos ousted Romania’s Patricia Maria Tig 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in the first round of the tournament on Sunday.
The Hungarian, ranked 115th in the world, struck 10 aces, converted 4 of 9 break points and won 82 of 148 points to dispatch the World No. 56 in just under 2 hours.
A four-time doubles champion at the majors, the 27-year-old Hungarian has started the season well, having won all three of her qualifying rounds at the Australian Open qualifiers earlier in January.
Babos beat Marina Melnikova in straight sets in the first round of qualifying before having to endure two three-setters against France’s Tessah Andrianjafitrimo and Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the second and third rounds respectively.
A former World No. 25 and a winner of three WTA titles, Babos failed to win any of her singles main draw matches last year, but showed great doubles form as she won two of the three major titles with Mladenovic.
Garcia v Babos Prediction and Tip
Babos has struck form this year and will ask a few questions of Garcia, but expect the Frenchwoman to have all the answers ready. Garcia should win this in straight sets.
Tip: Garcia to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
