Milos Raonic v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
This will be the fourth meeting between the two players.
Raonic currently leads 2-1 on head-to-head meetings. He won their most recent fixture, which came in the 2019 Indian Wells Masters. His other win was a straight sets victory that came in the first round of the 2017 Wimbledon.
Struff’s victory against Raonic, on the other hand, came in the first round of the 2019 Dubai Open.

Raonic Starts Strong Against Lajovic
Raonic started his 2021 season with a great result after bettering Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic in straight sets.
The first set was an even affair that ultimately hinged upon a single break point that went Raonic’s way, giving him the set 6-3.
Lajovic, however, was more resolute in the second set.
Despite getting no break points of his own, he managed to rescue six of the seven break points that Raonic got. Nevertheless, that one converted break point proved to be decisive in giving Raonic the set 6-4 and the match ultimately.
Raonic’s serve was on point as usual. He notched a total of 11 aces and won 29 out of his 32 first points, which translates to a 91% success rate.

Struff Facing Uphill Task
After a decent 2020 that saw him achieve a career-high 29th-place ATP ranking, Struff began the year with an okay result in the Antalya Open by reaching the tournament’s quarter-final stage.
In that run, he bettered Pavel Kotov in straight sets with ease in the first round, got a walkover against Hugo Grenier in the second round, and had a quarter-final tie to savor against Jeremy Chardy that was decided by a third-set tiebreak.
That should give Struff some much needed confidence, especially for a player who has had his fair share of hard-court woes in his professional career—albeit his 10-6 record on hard courts last year marked his best-performing year on the court and signaled a great improvement.
He’ll need to show those signs of improvement when he clashes with Raonic in Germany’s ATP Cup opener, a player who matches many of his strengths but one who poses an uphill task for Team Germany.
Raonic v Struff Prediction and Tip
Raonic seems destined to give Germany a hard time in this tie. Struff, despite his strong serve, will find it hard to break Raonic. If the German’s resistance is broken early on, expect Raonic to have a routine win in this one.
Tip: Raonic to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
