Ons Jabeur v Anna Blinkova Head to Head

Jabeur won their only match-up in Hobart last year, easily winning the Round of 32 match 6-4, 6-1.

Jabeur Will Look for a Fast Start

Coming off her best season on the Tour, Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur will be aiming to make a bigger impact this year as she begins her campaign down under at the Grampians Trophy on Wednesday, February 3.

The World No. 30 has already played at Abu Dhabi this year, where she started off well by beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets in the first round. In the next round, the 26-year-old bounced back from a set down to beat Ukraine’s Kateryna Bondarenko. Her run, however, ended in the Round of 16, as she was outplayed by the in-form Aryna Sabalenka, who eventually went on to capture her third title in a row.

Yet to win a WTA title, the Tunisian reached her career-high ranking of No. 30 last week.

In 2020, Jabeur had become the first Arab woman in history to reach the last eight of a major when she reached her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open.

The Tunisian also reached the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open, Top Seed Open, Cincinnati Open and Ostrava Open, but failed to make the semifinals in any of those tournaments.

The 2018 Moscow runner-up, Jabeur was 23-11 last season, and will be looking to even better that record in 2021.

Blinkova Hoping for Better Results in 2021

Facing Jabeur in the first round will be 22-year-old Russian Anna Blinkova.

Ranked 61st in the world, Blinkova first broke into the top 100 in 2018 and backed it up with a decent 2019 season, when she reached her first two WTA semifinals in Guangzhou and Luxembourg.

But a satisfying 2019 was followed by a not-so-great 2020, as she struggled to win consecutive main draw matches. The only time she did that was at the Italian Open when she reached the Round of 16 as a qualifier. She beat Switzerland’s Jil Teichman and Spain’s Aliona Bolsova in the first two rounds but fell to Karolina Pliskova in the next.

While singles was a struggle, Blinkova did pretty well in doubles, reaching two semifinals, including one at the U.S. Open, and a quarterfinal.

Blinkova, who reached her career-high ranking of 54 last February, has had her moments in the past. She forced the deciding set against Naomi Osaka in the first round of the 2019 U.S. Open and defeated Belinda Bencic in the first round of the Shenzhen Open last year.

Jabeur v Blinkova Prediction and Tip

Expect Blinkova to make it a bit tougher than Hobart last year, but Jabeur should still win this in straight sets.

Tip: Jabeur to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
