Johanna Konta v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head
There has been one previous match between Konta and Begu before this and that came as recently as the Italian Open last season. Konta won that second round match in straight sets, only to lose to Garbine Muguruza next round.

Konta Begins with Easy Win over Pera
The former world number four Konta did not break into much of a proverbial sweat as she bulldozed her second round opponent Bernarda Pera to register a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Konta was in a ravaging mood to kick-start the proceedings for the season when she broke Pera in successive games – the third and fifth – and then held on to her serve to complete a quick win in the first set.
The second proved to be a slightly harder nut to crack to begin with as the players exchanged breaks of serves to start things off but once Konta broke yet again to go 2-1 up, there was no looking back for the Brit. At 3-5 down, Pera dropped serve yet again and with it, the match.
Konta enters the 2021 season after a few mixed results last year – she was a semifinalist at both, the Monterrey Open and Cincinnati Open but other than that had very little shine to her performances, ending the season with early defeats at both, the US Open and French Open.

Fighting Begu Sees off Second Successive Deficit
For the second match in a row, Begu was a set down. And for the second successive time, she fought hard to turn things around and clinch a three-set victory.
After a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Saisai Zheng, the 79th-ranked Begu competed with Aliaksandra Sasnovich in a bid to hold her serve in the first set and came second. In a set lasting 12 games, only three games went on serve and Sasnovich held it twice to win the opening set.
The second set was a lot tighter from both players, at least as far as their serves is concerned, and the only break came in the very first game which Begu used to complete the equaliser.
Sasnovich drew first blood in the final set to take a 3-1 lead, but two breaks of serve for Begu meant she won five of the next six games to complete a rousing win.
The qualify of opposition now jumps up starkly but with the grit Begu has shown so far, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if she manages to take the fight to her opposition yet again.
Konta v Begu Prediction and Tip
Konta is an obvious favourite but we are backing Begu to win at least a set here.
Tip: Begu to win a set – Yes: 4/5 (bet365)
