Garbine Muguruza v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head
Muguruza leads Pavlyuchenkova 5-1.
The only time the Russian got the better of Muguruza was in Stuttgart in 2018, when the Spaniard retired with a back injury after losing the first set. The last of their meetings was at the Australian Open quarterfinals last year, which Muguruza won in straight sets. Pavlyuchenkova has taken Muguruza to the deciding set only once, in Miami in 2013.

Muguruza off To a Flying Start
Two-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza began her Yarra Valley campaign in style as she needed just 53 minutes to dispatch Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck 6-2, 6-0 in the Round of 32 on Tuesday.
In what was a disciplined performance by the World No. 15, Muguruza didn’t allow a single break point in the match while converting 5 of 7. She won 51 of the 78 points in the match to get her campaign off to a flying start.
Playing in her second tournament of the year, the 2016 French Open and 2017 Wimbledon champion is aiming for a solid build-up to the Australian Open, where she reached her maiden final last year only to finish runner-up to American Sofia Kenin, who fought her way back after conceding the first set.
Earlier in January, Muguruza played at the Abu Dhabi Open, where she won her first two rounds against Kristina Mladenovic and Aliaksandra Sasnovich, respectively, without dropping a set, but fell to Greece’s Maria Sakkari in straight sets in the Round of 16.
Last season, Muguruza had also made it to the semifinals in Italy and the quarterfinals in Dubai and Qatar.

Pavlyuchenkova Makes Short Work of Sevastova
World No. 39 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova continued her forward march in the tournament as she defeated Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova 6-0, 6-3 in the second round on Tuesday.
The win comes a day after she defeated Japan’s Misaki Doi 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. While she needed an hour and seven minutes to beat Doi, she got past her Latvian opponent in just 59 minutes.
Knocked out by Ons Jabeur in the first round at Abu Dhabi last month, Pavlyuchenkova is coming off a mixed 2020.
A 12-time WTA singles champion and eight-time finalist, the Russian was a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open last year, but failed to replicate that form the rest of the season, making early exits from the other tournaments.
The 29-year-old right-hander is a six-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist who won her last title in Strasbourg in 2018.
Muguruza v Pavlyuchenkova Prediction and Tip
Going by their past record, Muguruza definitely has the edge. Expect the Russian to put up some resistance, but the Spaniard should go through.
Tip: Muguruza to win: 2/5 (bet365)
