Karen Khachanov v Kevin Anderson Head to Head

In their only previous meeting which came in Miami in 2018, Kevin Anderson came out on top in a seesaw three-set affair.

Khachanov Makes Winning Start To His 2021 Season

Karen Khachanov made a winning start to his 2021 season after stopping Max Purcell’s charge and snapped his three-match losing streak which he carried from last season.

The Australian wildcard Purcell, went toe to toe with the Russian power hitter, but Khachanov garnered the lone and decisive break of serve to win 7-6 6-3.

The world no.20 who is in desperate search of his fifth tour-level title this week and his first since winning the Paris Masters, made it double celebration for Russia after his country’s exploits at the ATP Cup. Khachanov is not taking part at the team tournament, and was made to work his socks off to get his first win of the season.

The Russian saved all four break points on his serve and had to remain patient throughout for his chances when they presented themselves. Eventually, he wore down the Australian in the tiebreak to take the first set. He hammered 11 aces in total and proceeded to earn a break in the second set to confirm his progress.

Khachanov is now the highest seed at the Great Ocean Road Open following David Goffin’s surprise defeat to Carlos Alcaraz Garfia.

Anderson Finds Form Early On

It has been a difficult spell with injuries for Kevin Anderson, but he is slowly building on a potential deep run at the Great Ocean Road Open this week.

Anderson was forced to retire in his last two tournament appearances (Vienna and Paris Masters) of the 2020 season. However, there have been no causes of alarm bells ringing on the treatment table this year. Anderson has started it by serving a reminder he is now fit and raring to go.

The big serving South African has secured two wins under his belt Down Under, beating Feliciano Lopez and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in straight sets. And as ever, his serve remains his best shot. Anderson has racked up 30 aces in those two matches and is yet to get broken this week.

At 34 years of age, he has managed to haul himself back to inside the top-100 of the ATP rankings, and goes in search of his first title since 2019.

Khachanov v Anderson Prediction and Tip

Anderson starts as a slight favorite after finding his groove early on. He didn’t drop serve in his two matches. And in a contest where rallies will be at an all-time low, both players will have very few opportunities of making serious inroads on each other’s games.

Tip: Over 21.5 games: 5/6 (bet365)
