Daniil Medvedev v Alexander Zverev Head to Head
This will be the ninth meeting between the two players with Zverev leading the head-to-head 5-3. Their last two meetings were in late 2020, at the ATP Tour Finals and the Paris Masters 1000, with Medvedev prevailing on both occasions.

Unbeaten Since Paris Masters; Medvedev Marching On
Medvedev ended 2020 on a strong note with victories at the Paris Masters and the ATP Tour Finals In London. In Paris, the Russian was in stellar form, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final and continued his winning run at the ATP Tour Finals in London, remaining unbeaten and defeating the top three players in the world, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Dominic Thiem en route.
With a strong end to 2020 behind him, the Russian arrived in Australia, looking to continue the form into the new season as his chances for success at the first major of the year look as good as anyone’s and along with Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic, is one of the favorites at Melbourne Park this year.
The Russian has looked in sublime touch this week, with wins against Diego Schwartzman and Kei Nishikori in straight sets and has looked largely unruffled thus far. While Nishikori was recovering from a long layoff, Schwartzman was coming off a career best 2020 season. But, neither seemed to make much of a difference as Medvedev marches on.
With Andrey Rublev in prime touch as the second Russian singles player, an ATP Cup win for Russia this weekend looks a very probable scenario.

Zverev Getting Confident Ahead of Aussie Open
After an up and down last couple seasons and a 0-3 record at the ATP Cup in 2020, Alexander Zverev has led the German charge into the semi-finals of this year’s ATP Cup. Zverev came into his opener looking for his first ever ATP Cup win and hoping to avenge his 2020 defeat to Denis Shapovalov, from Canada. It was a hard fought battle this time around.
With Shapovalov winning the first set in a very closely fought tiebreaker, Zverev looked sharp both on serve and with the groundstrokes. After a strong second set by the German, the decider stayed evenly matched and going into another tiebreak, the German was clearly the better player at the big moments and prevailed in the decider.
It was another tightly fought encounter against world number one Novak Djokovic. Zverev took the first set in a tiebreak, but it is hard to undo the Serbian’s surgical precision for too long. A vintage Djokovic second set saw the match head for a deciding third set. Both players looked in control of the set for a bit as the momentum went back and forth. Surprisingly, although Djokovic double faulted right as he was serving for the match, he broke the German right back for a second chance to serve out the match. There was no stopping the Serbian hold his nerves this time around.
Shortly thereafter, Zverev paired up with his countryman Jan-Lennard Struff for a match tiebreak win against the Serbians and in turn ensuring a semi-final spot for Germany.
Medvedev v Zverev Prediction and Tip
An exciting semi-final encounter lies ahead; with two familiar opponents in what is becoming a rivalry of sorts. Their paths to the semi-finals have been polar opposite; Medvedev has coasted along, where as Zverev has been pushed in both his matched, against Shapovalov and Djokovic
Expect a close match as Zverev is increasing in confidence, but Medvedev is the man to beat at the moment. The Russian to win in a decider.
Tip: Medvedev to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
