Milos Raonic v Federico Coria Head to Head

Raonic Raring to Go after Strong 2020

The Canadian’s game seemed to have fallen away between 2019 and the start of 2020, and so had his ranking. Fitness was an obvious concern and when he lost his opener at the Doha Open early in the year, it looked like the climb back up was going to be a steep one.

Raonic started that off with a quarterfinal at the 2020 Australian Open, en route which he shocked Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. He then made the semifinal at the New York Open just before the pandemic pressed the pause button to the season but when the Canadian returned to the sport, it seemed like he had never been away.

In the very first competition, played at the Western & Southern Open, Raonic sent Andy Murray and Tsitsipas (again!) packing to enter the final where he fell away fighting to a three-set defeat at the hands of Novak Djokovic. A semifinal at both, the St. Petersburg Open and the Paris Masters signalled a solid season-end for him which had seen him win 23 matches to his eight losses.

It also brought him back to 15th in the world and while he began the new year with a win and a loss at the ATP Cup – going down to Jan-Lennard Struff – Raonic will have the self-belief he can enter the second week of the tournament here.

Clay-Court Specialist Coria Looking at Career-Best

Argentina’s Coria is currently 92nd on the ATP charts, six away from his best ever ranking. Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t played too many matches on hard court surfaces all his career, featuring in just 18 before this season.

So much so, all of his 10 Futures and Challenger title wins have come on clay.

Which is why when he started off this season in the first round of the Murray River Open against Radu Albot, he was a distant 5/2 to win that opener. He did that in straight sets, much to a lot of people’s surprise, before losing in the second to Taylor Fritz.

Does that change anything around? Not when the opponent is Raonic but it does give him a chance to build on this in the future. Tough to see him put anything across the Canadian though.

Raonic v Coria Prediction and Tip

Unsurprisingly, Raonic is a whopping 1/66 to win this while starting out at 2/9 to do that in straight sets. Find it tough to back any other result here.

Tip: Raonic to win in straight sets: 2/9 (bet365)
