Roberto Bautista Agut v Radu Albot Head to Head
Bautista Agut and Albot have never played each other before this.

Bautista Agut’s Struggles in Quarantine Extend to Court
It was never expected to be easy but Bautista-Agut’s struggles have been in the limelight after he chose to highlight them. One of the players quarantined after landing in Australia, the Spaniard had lashed out at the conditions for the players, calling them a “jail with wi-fi”.
Later he featured in the ATP Cup, representing Spain and once it was evident Rafael Nadal wouldn’t be playing any match, he was effectively their best player. Unfortunately for him – and his side – Bautista Agut failed to live up to the expectations, losing two of his three singles matches.
Bautista Agut started off well with a fighting win over Alex De Minaur in the first match of the tournament but came up a cropper when it really mattered. First he fell to a 7-5, 7-5 defeat to Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas despite which Spain qualified for the semifinal.
In the last-four tie, Bautista Agut lost his singles match to Matteo Berrettini again, 6-3, 7-5.
It must be quickly added here that Bautista Agut did have a consistent finish to the 2020 season as he won at least two matches in each of the five tournaments he played post the pandemic break. A semifinal at the Cincinnati Masters was his best performance, having earlier won all his six 2020 ATP Cup matches as well.
Can he better his third round appearance at the Australian Open in 2020?

Albot Yet to Win a Set This Season
The 85th-ranked Albot did not have a bad ending to the previous season but it was the damage done by his results in the rest of the year which saw him plummet in his rankings.
Albot had begun 2020 in abysmal fashion, losing seven matches in a row and once the pandemic break ended, he lost four more to make it 11 defeats without a victory. It was only towards the latter stages of the season that Albot finally got going and finally made the second round at the Paris Masters as a qualifier and the quarterfinal in the Sofia Open.
Unfortunately for him, it looks like he would have to turn things around in a similar fashion as last season. Albot’s two tournament appearances have left him with two opening round defeats.
What’s worse is those have both been straight-set losses and to players who have gone into the encounter as second-favourite – Jeremy Chardy in Antalya and Federico Coria in Melbourne. And now he faces a top-20 player which makes his task doubly difficult.
Can he give himself something to cheer from this opener?
Bautista Agut v Albot Prediction and Tip
While Bautista Agut himself is struggling for form, he will start a favourite, with bet365 offering 1/25 for his win. A straight-set win looks a very likely result.
Tip: Bautista Agut to win in straight sets: 2/5 (bet365)
