Danielle Collins v Ana Bogdan Head to Head
The pair have played once before in the quarter -final in Monterrey in 2018. Bogdan won that match in straight sets.

Collins, Semi-Finalist Two Years Ago
This will be the first Grand Slam for Collins since she got to the quarter-finals in Paris in October, before eventually losing to Sofia Kenin.
That was the American’s best result in 2020 and helped salvage her reputation which had been tarnished during lockdown when she was ejected from the World Team Tennis event for breaking quarantine.
Collins has fond memories of Melbourne. It was here two years ago when she battled all the way to the semi-finals, beating Angelique Kerber along the way, to earn the biggest payday of her career. She eventually lost to Petra Kvitova.
That performance saw her reach a career high ranking of 23, although she has drifted a bit since then.
Like her opponent, she played in the Yarra Valley Classic and did well, reaching the quarter-final, defeating Karolina Pliskova in the process. She eventually lost to Serena Williams after a second set tie-break.

Bogdan Back in the Melbourne Main Draw
Bogdan had a highly successful junior career, and was ranked as high as two in the world at one stage. Although she has yet to replicate that at senior level, she has won 14 ITF titles, the most recent of which came in Dubai in December 2019.
Her best run in a Grand Slam came in Melbourne three years ago when she reached the third round. That performance helped propel her into the WTA top 100 for the first time, but, last year, she missed out after failing to get through the qualifying competition.
Bogdan did not achieve anything of note in 2020, although she did reach the second round in Paris before losing to Sofia Kenin.
Last week she played in the Yarra Valley Classic, where she beat the Russian Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round. However, she was then beaten in straight sets by the world number one, Ashleigh Barty.
Collins v Bogdan Prediction and Tip
Despite Bogdan having won their only previous meeting, Collins will start the clear favourite for this match. She is higher ranked and the more experienced at this level, and should progress without too much trouble.
Tip: Collins to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
