Resurgent Berrettini High On Confidence After ATP Cup
Italy’s Matteo Berrettini had a breakthrough 2019 breaking into the top ten of the ATP rankings, winning ATP titles and making the ATP Tour Finals in London for the first time. 2020 unfortunately was a dismal year for the Italian with injuries, poor form and playing less than ten singles matches overall.
Berrettini arrived at the ATP Cup leading the Italian charge and primed for success and confidence ahead of the Australian Open. It was a convincing start for the top Italian player, with straight set wins against Dominic Thiem and Gael Monfils taking his country into the semi-finals and putting up a solid performance against Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain and taking Italy into the ATP Cup finals.
Up against Daniil Medvedev in the finals of the ATP Cup, Berrettini was outplayed completely by the Russian, but it was a very positive week overall for him and he goes into the Australian Open with plenty of confidence and remains one of the dark horses for the next fortnight.

Anderson Looking To Return To Old Ways In ’21
Kevin Anderson had a promising 2017-2018 that saw him make the finals at the US Open and Wimbledon, as well as attain a career high ranking of number five in the world on the ATP tour. Anderson’s remarkable comeback against Roger Federer in the 2018 Wimbledon quarter-finals down match point in the third set, to win in a marathon decider will forever be etched in tennis fans’ memories.
2019 was a year of injuries and disappointment for the South African and it was a difficult recovery, with him dropping out of the top 100 in the ATP rankings. Anderson looked at making a comeback in the pandemic-hit shortened 2020 season, but it was challenging and difficult.
After several disappointing comeback losses, Anderson finally hit firm on the faster indoor courts in Vienna where he made the semi-finals towards the end of the 2020 season, defeating Daniil Medvedev en route and losing to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.
Beginning the 2021 season in Australia at the Melbourne ATP 250, Anderson looked in good touch defeating Feliciano Lopez convincingly before falling against Karen Khachanov, who is also looking to get his season off on a strong note.
Berrettini v Anderson Prediction and Tip
This makes for an exciting match-up especially for a Slam opener. While Anderson has looked like finally getting back to his old ways, Berrettini looked very strong at the ATP Cup. A good match-up between two big hitters of a tennis ball. Expect a four set win for the Italian.
Tip: Berrettini to win in 4 sets: 3/1 (bet365)
