Sam Querrey vs Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Querrey Hoping for a Positive Result

Sam Querrey is a prolific player of the sports in the doubles department but as a singles player, there is still room for improvement for the 33-year-old.

Currently ranked World No. 51, Querrey’s last singles trophy of any kind came back in the 2019 ATP Eastbourne International, where he had to settle for the runners-up place.

Last year, he ended the season with a win-loss tally of 3-6, admittedly because of the lack of action on the tour. His only highlight of the season was a third-round run in the Australian Open.

Of course, all of this is not to say that Querrey is not a good player. He has plenty of experience on his side and a strong proclivity to do well in American tournaments. Plus, he is a former Wimbledon semifinalist with a few tricks up his sleeve, including a strong service game.

As for his run this season, Querrey played in the Delray Beach Open in January but made it as far as the second round. He had a similar stint in the Adelaide Internationa last week too.

Sonego, an Italian Prodigy in the Making?

Currently ranked World No. 34, Lorenzo has made great strides on the tour in the last couple of seasons. In fact, he rose to prominence in 2020 and achieved his career-best ranking of 32.

The 25-year-old Italian added a few feathers to his cap, the most noticeable of which is his fourth-round appearance in the French Open, where he fell ultimately to Diego Schwartzman. Nonetheless, it was his best run in a Grand Slam. Up until that point, a majority of his runs were stopped right in the first round – Grand Slam or ATP events.

Boosted by that positive result in Paris, Sonego later reached the final of the Vienna Open, all the way from the qualifying rounds. He even beat Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal but eventually, he fell to Andrey Rublev in the final.

This season, Sonego has only played in the tuneup event in Melbourne but lost in the first round to Jason Kubler.

Querrey vs Sonego Prediction and Tip

Now, one thing is certain – the Italian shows a lot of promise but needs practice and consistency to grow as a player. He can take on Querrey but given the gap in experience, it will be a difficult match for the youngster. Expect Sonego to win but it will be a tough game.

Tip: Over 33.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
