Alexandrova, in a Fine Form

The 26-year-old Ekaterina Alexandrova has started her 2021 season on a fantastic note. Just last week, she played in the WTA 500 event Gippsland Trophy, where she reached the semifinal.

On her path, she beat the last year’s French Open winner Iga Swiatek and former World No. 1 Simona Halep in straight sets. However, in the semis, she fell to Kaia Kanepi. Just last month, the Russian was on a similar spell in WTA Abu Dhabi expect there, she lost in the third round to Elina Svitolina.

2020 was a good year for Alexandrova as it truly put her on the WTA map and helped her become Russian No. 1. She delivered many remarkable performances like reaching the semifinal in WTA St. Petersburg and Linz Open. In fact, in St. Petersburg, she defeated Petra Kvitova on her way to the semis.

Moreover, the number 29 seed also won the Shenzhen Open, beating Garbine Muguruza and Shuai Peng in the competition.

In Grand Slams, she consistently reached the third round in Melbourne and Paris, and the second round in the US Open.

Trevisan, Hoping to Deliver Upsets

As World No. 86, Martina Trevisan may not be that well known in the tennis world. For the longest time, the 27-year-old Italian played on the ITF circuit and started featuring in Grand Slams and other WTA tournaments only in the last couple of seasons.

2020 was a breakthrough season for Trevisan, simply because of her brilliant run in the French Open. Up until that tournament in Paris, the Italian played in a series of WTA events but a majority of the times, she either lost in the qualifiers or the opening rounds.

But in Paris, she simply outdid herself. After beating the qualifiers to reach the main draw, Martina moved on to deliver a series of upsets, starting with Camila Giorgi and Cori Gauff.

In the third round, she met Maria Sakkari and beat her 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-3 to face Kiki Bertens next. Once again, Trevisan delivered the upset by knocking out the Dutch No. 1 in straight sets. However, she ultimately fell to Swiatek in the quarters.

Following that performance, the Italian called it a season and appeared only last month in the WTA Abu Dhabi where she lost to Yulita Putintseva in the opening match. She incurred the same fate in the Gippsland Trophy too, where she lost to Andrea Petkovic in round one.

To build some more momentum, Trevisan also played as doubles with Aleksandra Krunic in another tournament but ended up losing again.

Alexandrova vs Trevisan Prediction and Tip

On paper, Alexandrova will start as the favourite and should win this game easily. However, Trevisan is capable of delivering upsets and can shake the order here.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
