Ons Jabeur v Anna Karolína Schmiedlová Head to Head
Jabeur and Schmiedlová are yet to face each other in a competitive match at any level on the women’s circuit.

2020 Quarterfinalist Jabeur Drops a Set in Opener
Jabeur shot to fame at the last year’s Australian Open, when she made it all the way to the quarterfinal there. With wins over Johanna Konta, Caroline Garcia, Caroline Wozniacki and Wang Qiang, it wasn’t even down to the luck of the draw which helped her in any way.
By the end of the season, she had climbed up to 30th in the world, her career-best.
Which is why there are a lot of expectations from Jabeur in this year’s Australian Open. And which is also why Jabeur’s first round performance over Andrea Petkovic, despite going into the game at 1/4 favourite to win it, wouldn’t have made her too happy.
Jabeur, who had lost in the third round at the Abu Dhabi Open and then crashed out of the Grampians Trophy in the second round, needed three sets to make it through to the second round. Can she get back into her rhythm going into this encounter?

Lucky Loser Schmiedlová Hoping to Emulate Her Best
Schmiedlová’s best performance at a Grand Slam has been the three third round appearances she has had in her career, but the only one on hard court surfaces came at the 2015 US Open.
Since then, her performances at majors haven’t quite been up to the scratch, having gone through 13 such tournaments without a main draw win before two wins at the French Open last year. Similarly, her last main draw win at a WTA 1000 tournament on hard courts came in 2016.
Schmiedlová enters the second round here on the back of a hard-fought victory over Mayo Hibi, a Japanese player who has never seen the top 150 on the WTA charts. Against Jabeur, who is 30th, things might not be that easy with the Slovakian needing to find a way to blunt her opponent’s all-court play.
Jabeur v Schmiedlová Prediction and Tip
Jabeur’s the favourite but her form isn’t at the levels from 2020 and if Schmiedlová can take advantage, we could see a third set in this encounter.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
