Andrey Rublev v Feliciano Lopez Head to Head

This will be the first ever meeting between the 23-year-old Russian and the 39-year-old Spaniard.

Rublev Rolls Past Monteiro

World No. 8 Andrey Rublev stormed into the third round of the Australian Open with a straight sets win over Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro on Thursday. The in-form Russian served 16 aces, won 83 percent of his first serve and hit 45 winners to win the second-round contest 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8).

In a match that lasted two hours and eight minutes, Rublev converted two of nine break point opportunities he created, while not allowing Monteiro to break even once, saving all four of the break points.

Having led Russia to its maiden ATP Cup title last week with four singles wins on the trot, Rublev got his Australian Open off to a good start on Tuesday as he tamed Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in the first round.

A winner of seven career titles, including five last year, Rublev needed just an hour and 42 minutes to dispatch the German 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

The 23-year-old right-hander, who is 6-0 in 2021 following Thursday’s win, is coming off a stellar 41-10 2020 season, which saw him win titles in Doha, Adelaide, Hamburg, St. Petersburg and Vienna.

He also did pretty well at the majors last year, reaching the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open for the second time in his career, and advancing to the last eight at Roland Garros for the first time.

Rublev also achieved his best result at the Australian Open, making a maiden Round-of-16 appearance before falling to Alexander Zverev.

Lopez Rallies To Incredible Win

Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez fought back from two sets down to score an incredible win over 31st seed Lorenzo Sonega of Italy in the second round of the Australian Open on Thursday.

Making a 19th consecutive appearance at the Melbourne slam, the 39-year-old Lopez struck 42 winners, won 149 points and converted all three of his break points to beat the Italian 5-7, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 in three hours and 18 minutes.

A former World No. 12, Lopez, currently ranked 65th in the world, had on Tuesday begun his campaign with a come-from-behind four-set win over Aussie wild card Li Tu.

Serving 21 aces and winning 87 percent of his first serve points, Lopez lost the first set in a tiebreak to Li, before rallying to a 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win in two hours and 46 minutes.

The lefty, playing in his 75th major, is a four-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist and has never gone past the fourth round of the Australian Open, having made that far in the tournament twice.

Rublev v Lopez Prediction and Tip

While the vastly experienced Lopez has shown that he is still ready to fight, he will have his task cut out against Rublev. The seventh seed is in sensational form and should advance with a straight sets win.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
