Elina Svitolina vs Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
This will be their seventh meeting on the WTA Tour with Sviolina, holding a healthy lead by 5-1. Putintseva’s sole win over Elina came back in 2012 WTA Dubai.
Their last meeting was in the 2019 WTA Zhengzhou, where Svitolina won 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(5).

Svitolina Exhibiting Brilliant Form
The Ukrainian is marching imperiously in the Australian Open at the moment. A two-time quarterfinalist here in Melbourne, Svitolina has so far effortlessly dispatched Marie Bouzkova and Cori Gauff to reach the third round.
More impressively, the World No. 5 is yet to drop a set in the competition. Her’s Thursday’s win over Gauff was particularly impressive, as she needed just an hour and 17 minutes to win. She ultimately won the match 6-4, 6-3.
The 26-year-old has been a consistent player on the WTA Tour, having made it to the quarterfinal in five of the last six tournaments she participated, including the WTA Abu Dhabi and Gippsland Trophy this year, and the French Open from last season.
Even though she fell to the underdogs like Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova there, Svitolina still continues to be a formidable player. Last year, she won a couple of singles titles in a plague-stricken season. Additionally, she was also a semifinalist in the Wimbledon and US Open and had back to back appearances in the final of the year-end WTA Finals.

Putintseva Aiming for her Best Run in Melbourne
The 26-year-old Putintseva has never made it past the third round here in the Australian Open. However, it isn’t to say that the Kazakh hasn’t got the skills or experience needed to turn it around.
She reached the quarterfinal at the French Open twice, and the US Open once. Additionally, she has also fought and beaten many top players like Naomi Osaka, Karolina Pliskova, Sloane Stephens, Belinda Bencic, and more.
Currently ranked World No. 28, Putintseva is certainly off to a good start in the Slam.
In the opener, she beat the unseeded Sloane Stephens 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, and followed it with a similar three-setter over Alison Van Uytvanck.
As for her performance so far this season, Putintseva played in the Grampians Trophy and WTA Abu Dhabi but ended up succumbing in the early rounds. Most of her previous season was also along similar lines, except for her run at the Flushing Meadows, where she reached the quarterfinal.
It’s evident that she is not an entirely mediocre player but at the same time, is not the strongest opponent on the tour either. On her best day, she can beat the big guns but those best days seem to be a rarity in her play.
Svitolina v Putintseva Prediction and Tip
Svitolina should come through in this match but she may face some resistance from her Kazakh adversary. Expect over 19.5 games in the match.
Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
