Daniil Medvedev v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

The players have met once and Krajinovic pulled off a one sided win at the 2019 Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament.

Medvedev Makes It 16 In 16

Medvedev ended 2020 on a strong note with victories at the Paris Masters and the ATP Tour Finals In London, with a ten match winning streak involving victories against the top three in the world Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem. The winning run continued Down Under remaining unbeaten at the ATP Cup and coasting through his opening rounds.

The Russian looked in invincible form at the ATP Cup, and any concerns around fatigue were soon irrelevant with him making quick work of Canadian Vasek Pospisil in the opener and following it with a similar clinical showing in the next round against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.  With an ever improving serve, the Russian was able to get himself out of any spots of bother and the quality of groundstrokes has been of the highest quality right through the Australian tennis season thus far.

Medvedev has now won his last 16 matches in a row since the start of the Paris Masters, with ten wins against players ranked in the top ten in the world. The Russian turned 25 today, and looks set for a deep run this fortnight and will fancy his chances at a shot at the title, maintaining the self-belief that he can beat the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

Krajinovic Suited To Surface, But Can He Stop The Russian?

Serbian Filip Krajinovic has had an up and down career, largely due to a mix of injuries and inconsistent form. However, his results through his career have impressed intermittently, like the finals of the Masters 1000 at Paris in 2017 among others, and evidenced that he definitely possesses the skills to outdo his track record.

Ranked just outside the top 30, it was a mixed season for Krajinovic since the return of the tour last August. He looked in good form at the Western & Southern Open making the quarter-finals and defeating Dominic Thiem en route in quick time, dropping only three games.

A third round at the US Open followed, but his performance saw a dip during the clay swing through the rest of the year.

The Serb looked good in his only doubles match at the ATP Cup pairing up with world number one Novak Djokovic, winning a crucial doubles tie against Canada.

However a niggle followed and although he has recovered well for the major this week, he was pushed in both his matches thus far. Two tight and gritty four setters followed against veterans Robin Haase and Pablo Andujar and although Krajinovic pulled through, does not look to be at 100 percent, and even that may not be enough for the form Medvedev is in now.

Medvedev v Krajinovic Prediction and Tip

Medvedev has been on a run since the Paris Masters that has continued into the start of the season here in Australia. Krajinovic is a consistent performer and suited to the faster surfaces, but it will take a heroic effort from anyone to stop the Russian this fortnight. A well fought match, but Medvedev to prevail in three tight sets.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 4/7 (bet365)
