Ash Barty v Shelby Rogers Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Barty has won both times. The first came at the 2017 Australian Open in the second round which the Aussie took in straight sets before Rogers took her to a third set recently at the Yarra Valley Classic Open before losing 10-4 in the match tie-breaker.

After having registered straight-set wins over Danka Kovinic and Daria Gavrilova in the first two rounds of the competition, Barty was expected to face her first challenge in the form of Ekaterina Alexandrova. And the manner in which the match started, it sure looked like that.
It started with the world number one getting broken in the very first game of the encounter and falling 2-0 down soon after.
Barty, however, is made of sterner stuff and once she got going there was no looking back, not in the first set at least. She rattled off three successive breaks and six games in a row to clinch the opening set.
Again, in the second set, it was Alexandrova who drew first blood when Barty was broken first in the fifth game with the Russian soon taking a 4-2 lead. And again, Barty, not one to be intimidated, rallied to win the next four games to complete a slightly nervy but in the end a straight-set win.

Rogers Makes Surprise Entry
American Rogers, who has never in her career been ranked better than 48th in the world, has lost just one of the seven matches she has played this season. That defeat, as we mentioned earlier in the head to head section came to Barty in the Yarra Valley Classic Open quarterfinal, and was a tournament her Aussie opponent had gone on to win.
Here, her draw has been kind to her, with Rogers facing Brit qualifier Francesca Jones in the first round and then having had the 16th seeded Petra Martic knocked out before she could face her in the second round
Truth be told, however, Rogers’ win in the third round against 21st seeded Anett Kontaveit, which came in straight sets, was another indicator of her form which has already seen her made the quarterfinals of the US Open last season and beat Serena Williams at the Lexington Open. Question is if she can maintain that same rhythm against the world number one as well.
Here’s a record Rogers will be happy to go into this match with under her belt – she has played two fourth round matches in Grand Slam competitions and won both. Can Barty reverse the trend?

Barty starts off 1/4 to win this and 8/13 to do that in straight sets. A fighting effort from Rogers could push this one to a third set but more vitally looking at the games market.
