Eight of fourth round matches across the men’s and women’s section of the draw will be played on Sunday and the first encounter at the Rod Laver Arena will be between Naomi Osaka and Garbine Muguruza. In some ways, this is a final before the final, with two of the best players on tour right now, facing off this early in the draw because of their seeding.

Following this, Aryna Sabalenka, one of the dark horses coming into this tournament, faces the 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams for the first time in their careers. Sabalenka, apart from a surprise loss in the tune-up competition before this, has been in a rich vein of form while Serena, being Serena, might not be playing at her best capacity but is still to drop a set.

Dominic Thiem came back from two sets down to Nick Kyrgios to win his third round match and he now faces Grigor Dimitrov who did not lose a game when his opponent, Pablo Carreno Busta retired with an illness in the second set.

In a rematch of the previous two year’s French Open, Simona Halep takes on Iga Swiatek with the Romanian gunning for revenge after facing a shocking drubbing in their previous meeting.

Last, but definitely not the least will be – hopefully – Novak Djokovic taking to court, as he looks to recover from his side injury in his previous round. If fit, he will face Milos Raonic, who has been in form but has struggled to overcome Djokovic in the past.

First up at the Margaret Court Arena will be former French Open runnerup Marketa Vondrousova who faces surprise entrant Hsieh Su-wei in their fourth round match first up. This will be followed by another unexpected presence of Aslan Karatsen of Russia, who faces Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime while lastly on court will be in the in-form Alexander Zverev taking on Dusan Lajovic for a place in the quarterfinal.
