Jannik Sinner v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head
There have been two previous matches played on the ATP tour between these two and the score is tied at 1-1. They had also played in a match on the Challenger circuit in 2019 and Bedene had won that one.
In their latest meeting which came in a tournament in Melbourne just prior to the 2021 Australian Open, Sinner was a straight-set winner over Bedene, en route his second ATP title.

Sinner to Put Australian Open Ouster Behind
It’s been a mixed start to the season for the Italian teenager Sinner. He was one of the players expected to go deep into the Australian Open after his showing at the warm-up event in the lead-up to the year’s Grand Slam but got drawn to face Denis Shapovalov.
Had his ranking at the end of that tune-up event been taken into consideration, Sinner would have been one of the seeded players, which would have meant he didn’t play a world number 12 in his very first round match.
Instead, he entered the Australian Open as an unseeded player, nearly gave Shapovalov a scare before bowing out in a tough five-setter in that first round match at the year’s first major.
Still, as far as performances go, his victory at the Great Ocean Road Open and that showing against Shapovalov will go a long way in ensuring he has the confidence needed to become a more permanent fixture in the top 20 of the world. He starts off this tournament against a player who has never been ranked inside the top 40.

Bedene 2-2 This Year
In his own sort of a way, Bedene’s started off the year on similar lines as Sinner. He was looking good in the Great Ocean Road Open, the tune-up tournament before the Australian Open before his run to the third round was ended by, who else, but Sinner.
And then despite starting out as a mild favourite in his opening round encounter against Alexander Bublik, Bedene went down fighting in four sets to the Kazakh.
Those two wins in Melbourne though would have calmed Bedene’s nerves down a tad after the kind of finish he had to the previous season. After losing in the third round of the French Open, Bedene was defeated in the first rounds in Antwerp, Vienna and Paris to end on a four-match losing streak.
Unfortunately for him, drawing a player like Sinner first up here make things very difficult for the Slovenian.
Sinner v Bedene Prediction and Tip
Sinner is 1/4 to win this and given his record in recent times and Bedene’s aversion to indoor hard courts (those aforementioned losses in Antwerp, Vienna and Paris all coming indoors), it seems to be an obvious conclusion where this one is headed.
Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 3/4 (bet365)
