Mladenovic Searching For 2019 Form
After a poor start to the 2021 season, Kiki Mladenovic found some form at the Australian Open, defeating 20th seed Maria Sakkari of Greece in the first round and Japan’s Nao Hibino in the second before falling to one of the finds of the tournament, Jessica Pegula in the Round of 32.
The 6’0” foot tall right-hander, who has five doubles Grand Slam titles, also lost to Pegula in the first round of the Yarra River Classic, which followed her first-round defeat to Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in Abu Dhabi.
The 2017 St. Petersburg champion Mladenovic has 24 doubles titles, which includes two Australian Open and three French Open successes. She also reached the No. 1 ranking in doubles in 2019.
Currently ranked 52nd in singles, Mladenovic had a disappointing 4-9 season in 2020, which followed a promising 2019 that saw the Frenchwoman feature in two semifinals and six quarterfinals.
The two-time major quarterfinalist will be hoping to recapture her 2019 form in Adelaide, where she begins her challenge against the promising Swiss lefty.

Teichmann Looking to Build on Phillip Island Performance
Facing Mladenovic in the first round will be Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann, who reached the last eight of the Phillip Island Trophy this week, before falling to Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova.
Ranked 58th in the world, Teichmann, who began the 2021 season with back-to-back first-round defeats to American Cori Gauff at the Gippsland Trophy and the Australian Open, got some form going at the Phillip Island Trophy this week.
Beginning with a come-from-behind victory over Romania’s Mihaela Buzarnescu, the 23-year-old left-hander defeated two more Romanians, Monica Niculescu and Patricia Maria Tig, to secure a place in the quarterfinals, where she forced the decider after losing the first set, but unfortunately twisted her ankle in the third before going down to Bouzkova.
Teichmann, who broke into the top 100 in 2019, following her maiden title in Prague, added another title in Palermo the same year. She also reached the final of the Top Seed Open in Lexington last year, before going down to this year’s Australian Open runner-up Jennifer Brady.
Mladenovic v Teichmann Prediction and Tip
Mladenovic will be looking for consistency in Adelaide, but faces a very tricky opponent first up. Teichmann has produced good results recently and got some form going in the preceding tournament. Expect the Swiss to win this in three.
