Swiatek Makes it Past One Maddison…

…and is now facing a second one of the draw! Swiatek came away a 6-3, 6-4 winner in the opening round match, needing an hour and 18 minutes to come through in the encounter against Madison Brengle.

The first set started with an exchange of breaks for both the players, before Swiatek got hold of a decisive break of serve that resulted in a 3-1 lead for the Pole. She raced away to winning the set, never again getting troubled by her opponent.

In the second set, however, Swiatek was in early trouble, dropping her serve twice but she broke back each time to level things off at 3-3. And soon after that, Swiatek took advantage of a struggling Brengle to break her one more time before serving it out in the 10th game of the set.

Swiatek comes into this match having reached the fourth round of the Australian Open last week where she fell to Simona Halep. Having yet to win a title on a hard court surface, she would be gunning for a deep run in this competition and with a 136th-ranked opponent next, Swiatek will start off rather confidently in this encounter.

Qualifier Inglis Takes Advantage of Stosur Injury

It looked like Inglis was on struggling to find a way out of a mire when she fell a set down and had no answers to the Samantha Stosur serve, finding it difficult to get past her. However, a late medical timeout from Stosur was followed by Inglis missing five break-points before she finally broke her on the sixth.

Inglis then served out the set, was broken early in the third only to break back twice and clinch the match in a humdinger of a finish. She was on court for two hours and 46 minutes and that could have a say in the way things unravel from here on.

Especially given Inglis has already played two qualifying rounds including a three-setter.

She had earlier made it as far as the second round of the Phillip Island Trophy as well, after opening round defeats at the Yarra Valley Classic and the Australian Open. With a career-best ranking of 112th in the world and a struggle for form, it would need her a Herculean effort from the Aussie to test out her 18th-ranked opponent.

Swiatek v Inglis Prediction and Tip

No prizes for guessing who starts off a favourite here, with Swiatek at 1/12 to win this and 3/10 to do that in straight sets. Looking at the games market, we think this will be a quick one.

Tip: Under 18.5 games in the match: 8/11 (bet365)
