Swiatek Makes it Past Maddison With Ease
Having won her first round match against Madison Brengle in straight sets, Swiatek then made it two in two against Maddison Inglis with a crushing win in the second round of the competition. She won 6-1, 6-3 in an hour and 15 minutes to seal her quarterfinal berth.
Swiatek was off to a flier with a break of serve in the fourth and the sixth game of the opening set, and then saved two break-points, frittered away two set-points before serving it out in the seventh game.
Things looked to be getting slightly tougher for Swiatek, as far as breaking her opponent is concerned, but at 3-3 she got two break-points off the Inglis’ serve. Swiatek converted the first one and then broke her opponent yet again off the next one to finish off the encounter.
The Pole had earlier made it to the fourth round at the Australian Open but is yet to make it to the final of a hard court tournament – there are two others on clay, of which she has won. Can she push on to do that here?

Collins Ends the Barty Party
The world number one, Ash Barty, whom some admittedly don’t recognise as the top-ranked player given the change in the WTA Ranking system, had gone into this second round encounter at 1/4 to win the encounter. And it wasn’t like she wasn’t in form – she had easily made it to the quarterfinal of the Australian Open and was on her way to the semis too before Karolina Muchova turned things around.
For Collins to then hammer Barty after falling 2-0 down in the first set, clinching it 6-3, 6-4, you knew it was a special victory.
Collins recovered from the early break to break her opponent in two successive games and then served it out at 5-3.
Barty took a 3-1 lead yet again in the second set and was 4-2 up at one stage before Collins ran off with four successive games to complete an easy win. The American had earlier eased past Shuai Zheng in the first round after a semifinal appearance at the Phillip Island Open last week.
Swiatek v Collins Prediction and Tip
This can be expected to be a hard-hitting game which could see Collins surprise her much-revered opponent. Expect it to go into the third set.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
