Iga Swiatek v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
These two have never played each other at the highest level but did meet an exhibition match during the pandemic lockdown. It came on a clay court in Switzerland, and Swiatek came through in three sets.

While Swiatek was helped in a way by a Danielle Collins injury which forced her to retire from their quarterfinal, the Pole was by then a set and 2-0 up in the second. This follows a run of form that has seen Swiatek win six of her last seven matches and all of them in straight sets.
In the earlier rounds, Swiatek had wasted no time in getting past Madison Brengle and Maddison Inglis, dropping a grand total of 11 games across those two matches.
And even at the Australian Open, the world number 18 looked like she had most bases covered, registering easy victories over Arantxa Rus, Camila Giorgi and Fiona Ferro before muffing up a set lead against Simona Halep in the fourth round.
Up against her in this encounter isn’t one of the top opponents in the world and we have seen what kind of a demolition job she has often dished out in such cases. Will that continue in this semifinal?

Teichmann Sees off Sevastova
It was a match for the ages and one where fluctuating fortunes had a new definition.
Teichmann had five match-points in the second set against Anastasija Sevastova, lost it in the tie-breaker and then fell 3-0 behind in the final set. She then endured three match-points of her own, missed another match-point before winning it 6-4, 6-7 (8), 7-5 to make it to the semifinal.
A physically and mentally exhausted Teichmann was on court for two hours and 58 minutes and while she would be thrilled to get there after her quarterfinal appearance at the Phillip Island Open last week, it would be interesting to see how she goes after this gruelling encounter.
A little less than two years ago, Teichmann was struggling with her tennis, and was ranked 175th in the world but with this win, Teichmann has already jumped up to 55th, just three spots away from her career-best. Another win should see her break into the top 50 on the WTA charts.
