David Goffin v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

They have played once previously and that match came in the 2020 edition of the Marseille Open. It was a round of 16 encounter in which Gerasimov managed to surprise Goffin in straight sets.

Goffin Marches Past Sonego

While not a favourite going into his quarterfinal against Lorenzo Sonego, Goffin showed his mettle and came through in straight sets against the Italian.

And while the match did last nearly an hour and 30 minutes, it was his experience and the ability to maintain his composure in tricky situations which allowed the Belgian to come away 6-4, 6-4 to make it to the last four.

The first set saw just one break of serve, which came very early for Goffin who then did well to retain his own serve. In the second, things looked slightly more convoluted for Goffin when he fell 2-0 down but he clawed back slowly and surely enough to regain control.

Goffin broke back in the third game, and followed it up with a second break of serve in the seventh game. He had a chance to close out on Sonego’s serve at 5-3 in the second set but finally did so off the third match-point.

After a first round bye, Goffin had beaten Benjamin Bonzi in the second round.

Gerasimov Makes it Three in Three

It’s not just the three rounds that Gerasimov has won so far to make it to the semifinal that should make him proud of his performances so far. What makes it doubly satisfying is the fact Gerasimov was the second favourite in each of those three encounters.

It started with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Andy Murray despite having gone into the match at 6/4 to surprise the Brit.

The 1/1 to overcome Aljaz Bedene, Gerasimov managed to not drop a set before entering the quarterfinals, while then edging past Alejandroa Davidovich Fokina in that match. Again, it was Fokina, at 4/5, who was the favourite.

Against Goffin, Gerasimov will be a heavy second favourite but combine his recent form and the head to head from the previous season, and it could turn out to be a ripper.

Goffin v Gerasimov Prediction and Tip

It would be hard to ignore Gerasimov’s form coming into this semifinal and we are backing a tough fight here, with the games market most likely to be tested.

Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 10/11 (bet365)
