Hubert Hurkacz v Adrian Mannarino Head to Head

The 30th-ranked Hurkacz and the world number 35 Mannarino have never played each other before this in a competitive encounter.

Hurkacz on a Three-Match Losing Streak

It’s very early days in the season, but Hurkacz has already shown two drastically contrasting streaks of form.

Having begun the year by winning his second ATP title, a victory at the Delray Beach Open, he added a couple more wins at the Great Ocean Road Open to make it six successive wins in 2021.

And since then he has found the going to be very tough, almost out of nowhere, losing to Stefano Travaglia, Mikael Ymer and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in three successive matches including at the first rounds of the Australian Open and Montpellier Open.

Now kick-starting this competition as an unseeded player, the Pole could have been drawn to play any of the seeds, but instead will be up against another player ranked in the 30s. The big question is whether he can turn the losing streak off and set himself up for a potential second round meeting with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Hurkacz will hope to start things off on a high.

Mannarino Makes Mixed Start

An opening round loss at the Delray Beach Open would have pushed Mannarino back a tad after the kind of end he had to the season in 2020, but over the last three tournaments he has shown signs of some spark.

He made the second round at the Melbourne warmup competition, and then at the Australian Open, Mannarino won back to back rounds against Dennis Novak and Miomir Kecmanovic. A loss to Alexander Zverev in the third round was on expected lines, but more vitally, a second round loss to Radu Albot at the Singapore Open might not have gone too well for the Frenchman.

After all, he was a whopping 2/5 to win the match but was shredded in straight sets by the Moldovan.

In Mannarino’s only previous appearance at the Rotterdam Open which came in 2020, the world number 35 had fallen in the first round. Can he go one better this time?

Hurkacz v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

Given the bizarre nature of Hurkacz’s form and the manner in which Mannarino has struggled to get going at times this season, this is a tough one to call and the bookmakers look equally at unease. Both players start at nearly similar odds to win this but we reckon Hurkacz could edge this contest.

Tip: Hurkacz to win: 5/6 (bet365)
