Ugo Humbert v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head
The head-to-head stands at 1-0 Chardy. The veteran beat an inexperienced Humbert in the first round of the 2019 Australian Open in five sets.

Humbert Reached Quarterfinals in Montpellier
Ugo Humbert’s young career continues to blossom, even in these disorientating times. Still only 22, the Frenchman possesses an instinctive mind, a game built with panache and one sweet left-hand that conjures up some of the most beautiful shots for sore eyes.
Humbert’s improvement has seen him become a well rounded all-court player. Last week at the Open Sud de France in Montpellier, he reached the quarterfinals for the first time. After two first-round exits in the previous two years, the shaggy-haired Frenchman made amends with two hard-fought victories.
First up he beat Norbert Gombos in straight sets, firing 18 aces and winning 88% of first serves. Then came the difficult hurdle against Tallon Griekspoor in which he saved three match points to reach his first quarterfinals of 2021. His battle against the Dutchman took a lot out of Humbert both physically and mentally (needed two hours and 50 minutes), and he was totally fatigued in his next match against Bautista Agut.
But it was a very productive week for France’s fast-rising star. The world no.31 has an excellent record on an indoor hard court. He has played on the surface 13 times in his fledgling young career and already he boasts a title win (Antwerp), a quarterfinal achieved at the Paris Masters, and a semifinal in Marseille along with other decent showings in the 250 tournaments.

Chardy Comes Through Qualifying
It feels cruel that Jeremy Chardy is having to play the qualifiers to get into the main draw in Rotterdam after making a tremendous start to his 2021 season. But Chardy is paying a hefty price for his underwhelming performances from last season in which he did not make a significant inroads at any tournaments to affect his ranking.
He won two matches all year last term and had a year-end ranking of world no.75. After making back-to-back semifinals in Antalya and Murray River Open this year, he felt the wrath of the draw when he was slated to play Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open.
Chardy was outclassed by the defending champion for the umpteenth time. However, it is not matches against the world no.1 that will be a barometer of where the veteran intends to gauge his game. Instead, it is qualifying matches that the 34-year-old needed to win to get a spot in the main draw in Rotterdam.
Chardy scored three set wins over Tallon Griekspoor and Antoine Hoang to reach the main draw of Rotterdam for the fourth time in his career.
Humbert v Chardy Prediction and Tip
We expect the serve to dominate most of the action in this match, just like it was in their only previous meeting at the 2019 Australian Open.
Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6 (bet365)
