Karolina Pliskova v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

There have been two previous matches between Pliskova and Jabeur and the scoreline reads 1-1. Pliskova had won their meeting at the 2019 US Open but at this very tournament last season, Jabeur managed to put it past Pliskova at the pre-quarterfinal stage.

Pliskova’s Poor Form Seeps into 2021

2020 wasn’t the best season for Pliskova, especially following the pandemic break but one could be excused given the pandemic-related mitigating circumstances. Pliskova managed to change her coaching team but the results haven’t yet come for the world number six.

Starting out at the Abu Dhabi Open, Pliskova fell in the second round to Anastasia Gasanova, before losing in the second match of the Yarra Valley Classic as well.

And her form woes did not end there either. Playing in the first Grand Slam of the season, the former world number one – who is yet to win a major so far – did well to reach the third round with wins over Jasmine Paolini and Danielle Collins but then was taken out by fellow Czech Karolina Muchova.

Now, with a first round bye to her name, Pliskova will hope she is suitably warmed up taking on a tough opposition who had beaten her on these very courts last season.

Jabeur Waiting for a Breakthrough Run This Season

While the 2019-20 season was when Jabeur become more of a household name, she is yet to win a WTA title and hasn’t gone too far into any of the three tournaments she has played in. Her best showing was at the Australian Open where she defeated Andrea Petkovic and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova to reach the round three only to come up against Naomi Osaka.

Osaka’s crushing 6-3, 6-2 win over Jabeur was more a testimony of how well the Japanese player has gone in these last few months than too much of a reflection on Jabeur’s form by itself. What would please the Tunisian is that she was able to shrug off that defeat and cruise past Anna Blinkova in her first round here.

In just an hour and nine minutes, Jabeur disposed off Blinkova, registering a 6-2, 6-2 win. She broke Blinkova four times, and faced just two break-points, both of which she saved.

Can the Tunisian now get a struggling former number one?

Pliskova v Jabeur Prediction and Tip

Interestingly, despite the parity in their rankings, a number six playing the 31st-ranked player, Pliskova is only 4/5 to win this while Jabeur starts off a close second-best at 1/1.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
