Petra Kvitova v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head

This has been a long-standing rivalry with a total of 12 matches played between them across all circuits, including the Fed Cup and ITF. Kvitova leads 8-4 but rather interestingly in their previous six matches on hard court surfaces at the WTA level, their scores are tied at three apiece.

Kvitova Makes Disappointing Start to 2021

Kvitova was one of the few players who did remarkably well on the tour last season despite the pandemic issues which laid many a tennis star low. Although she didn’t win any titles, she was a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open right at the start of the season, made the final in Doha and followed it up with a fourth round appearance at the US Open and a semifinalist at the French Open.

It’s the start of this season that has been quite disappointing for the Czech.

She made her first appearance at the Yarra Valley Classic where Kvitova overcame Venus Williams in the first round but then suffered a shock loss to Nadia Podoroska in the second. At the Australian Open, Kvitova then started off with an easy win over Greet Minnen in the first round but then again fell to Sorana Cirstea in the second to leave Melbourne with barely a result in her favour.

Coming up against a tough opponent who has beaten her on hard court surfaces before this, Kvitova will have her task cut out.

Pavlyuchenkova Eases Past Pliskova

Qualifier Kristyna Pliskova didn’t last too long against Pavlyuchenkova in their first round match, with the Russian winning 6-2, 6-3 to reach the second round.

The match lasted a mere hour and 18 minutes, and saw Pavlyuchenkova break Pliskova five times while saving three of the four break-points she faced of her own.

The first set was bit of a roll for Pavlyuchenkova who went on a four-game winning streak to clinch the opener, and while Pliskova won an early break of serve in the second to lead 2-0, the Russian then levelled things off and then broke twice more from 3-3 to complete the victory.

Before this, Pavlyuchenkova had been sent packing from the first round at the Abu Dhabi Open but did make it as far as the third round at the Yarra Valley Classic.

Kvitova v Pavlyuchenkova Prediction and Tip

With Kvitova having not played a lot of tennis this year and not built any momentum and with Pavlyuchenkova having registered a decent record against the Czech, this could be a lot closer than the 8/15 odds for a Kvitova win.

Tip: Pavlyuchenkova to win a set – Yes: 8/13 (bet365)
