Kristina Mladenovic vs Paula Badosa Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Mladenovic continues her brilliant run in Lyon

The 27-year-old Frenchwoman is heading into this game after beating the Russian qualifier Margarita Gasparyan 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 19 minutes. With a first-service win rate of 76.9% and four break points, Mladenovic reached her first quarterfinal of the season.

In fact, the last time she was in the quarterfinal of a WTA event was back in the 2019 Kremlin Cup, where she made it as far as the semifinal. Nonetheless, it is definitely a positive feat for the World No. 53, who hasn’t had the most solid start to the 2021 season.

Excluding the Lyon Open, Mladenovic has so far played in four tournaments and ended up losing her opening-round games in three of them – WTA Abu Dhabi, Yarra Valley Classic, and Adelaide International. She did have a decent run in the Australian Open where she reached the third round before falling to Jessica Pegula.

Clearly, Mladenovic looks primed to turn it all around in France. After surviving a minor scare in the opening round against Mihaela Buzarnescu, she did find her bearings and got back to her winning ways.

The number 4 seed is more of a doubles player who is currently ranked #5 on the doubles circuit. With two Grand Slam wins last season with Timea Babos, she has the winning experience and can certainly make life difficult for her lowly-ranked adversaries.

Badosa Looking Dangerous

Just like Mladenovic, the 23-year-old Badosa has delivered what has been her best performance of the season. After surviving a three-set thriller in the opening round against Harmony Tan, the Spaniard dispatched Stefanie Voegele 6-2, 6-4 in a little under 90 minutes in Lyon.

That second-round win was among her most clinical matches of the year so far. Badosa had a similar stint in the WTA Abu Dhabi too where she reached the third round before succumbing to Veronika Kudermetova.

That said, consistency may be a problem for the number 7 seed. In the Australian Open last month, she was beaten by #130 ranked Liudmila Samsonova in the first round in three sets.

Badosa, who is still seeking her maiden singles title, has shown glimpses of brilliance on the tour last year when she reached the semifinal in WTA Istanbul and the fourth round in French Open. However, she is yet to deliver that kind of a run on the hard surface.

Mladenovic vs Badosa Prediction & Tip

Expect Mladneovic to win this game in three sets. She has more experience and given her pedigree, she should be able to move past Badosa into the semifinal.
