This will be the first meeting between the 25-year-old Serb and the 31-year-old Argentine.

Djere Fights Back Against Sousa

Beginning his campaign in the Round of 16 at the Chile Open, World No. 57 Laslo Djere rebounded from a set down to beat Portugal’s Pedro Sousa and entered the quarterfinal for the second consecutive tournament this year.

The Serb, who lost to compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic in the last eight of the Argentina Open last week, needed two hours and 23 minutes to oust the 110th-ranked Sousa 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

Winning 105 of the 200 points in the match, Djere struck six aces, converted four of six break points and saved two of five to improve to 3-4 this year.

A two-time winner on the tour, Djere, who received a first-round bye in Santiago, had begun the year with three consecutive losses on the hard courts of Antalya and Melbourne (where he featured in the Adelaide International and the Australian Open).

He finally got his first win of the year on his favourite surface, clay, at the Argentina Open last week. Djere ousted Italy’s Marco Cecchinato in the first round and Argentina’s Federico Delbonis in the next before being beaten by Kecmanovic in the quarterfinal.

Last year, the 25-year-old right-hander had finished with a 13-9 record, which included his second ATP title at the Sardinia Open, where he beat Cecchinato in the final. He had claimed his first title at the Rio Open in 2019.

Bagnis Knocks Out Tiafoe

Facing Djere in the quarterfinal will be Argentina’s Facundo Bagnis, who knocked out the fifth seed Frances Tiafoe in the second round on Wednesday.

Continuing his good form in the South American clay season, the 118th-ranked Bagnis upset the World No. 64, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) in two hours and four minutes and got his revenge over the American, who had knocked him out of the first round of the Argentina Open last week.

The 31-year-old left-hander had begun the tournament with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3 win over Cecchinato in the first round.

Wednesday’s win improved Bagnis to 5-2 this year. Two weeks ago, playing as a qualifier at the Cordoba Open, he made it to the semifinals before going down to Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas in a tough three-setter.

Bagnis, who reached a career-high ranking of 55 in November 2016, has played in 30 Challenger and Futures finals, all of which have been on clay, winning 18 of them. His last title came in Biella in Italy in 2020, where he picked his 13th Challenger title.

Laslo Djere v Facundo Bagnis Prediction and Tip

While Djere will be favourite to win this one, he will be wary of his opponent, who has won eight of his last 10 matches (including the three qualifiers he played in Cordoba). The Argentine is in good form and will give Djere a tough fight.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
