Taylor Fritz v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head
The only previous outing between Fritz and Basilashvili came way back in 2017 in Chengdu. Fritz had won that second round match in three sets.

Fritz Finding Ways to Crunch Past Tough Opponents
At the Australian Open which he played in before this, Fritz got past fellow Reilly Opelka and then took Novak Djokovic to five sets before going down in a tough battle. And it looks like the confidence from that match has rubbed on well on to Fritz, who has now won back to back matches against favourites.
After defeating Lorenzo Sonego in the first round easily, Fritz came up against David Goffin in the second with the latter starting out at 1/2 to go further. Fritz won a thrilling encounter in a final set tie-breaker.
And this has been followed by a win against Denis Shapovalov, where Fritz started out 8/5 and looked like he was going down when he lost the first set as well. Helped by a hindering shoulder problem for his Canadian opponent, Fritz overturned that loss of the set, before carving out a 6-3, 7-5 scoreline over the next two sets.
Interestingly, Fritz now comes into this semifinal as a solid favourite, with an eye towards a sixth ATP final, and the first since he made it that far at the 2020 Mexican Open.

Basilashvili Races Past Federer
It has been bit of a turnaround for Basilashvili, having entered this tournament with a win-loss record of two wins to five defeats. Barring his second round encounter against Malek Jaziri, Basilashvili has been a second favourite by some distance in both the remaining encounters and still found a way to make it through to the semifinal.
In his opener, Basilashvili was 14/5 odds to win that match against John Millman, fell a set behind but then came back to show why he was once ranked 16th in the world and rated so highly.
And after defeating Jaziri, it was time to face Roger Federer in the quarterfinal and again, he went into the match at 4/1 odds, and lost the first set again. Basilashvili came racing back with a couple of breaks in the second set to level the match but it was a thrilling third set that he would always remember.
Arguably not playing at his 100%, Federer saved three break-points in the seventh game, and then had a match-point of his own on Basilashvili’s serve at 4-5 but lost three games in a row to award the Georgian the match.
Can Basilashvili make it three shocks in a row?
Fritz v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip
Fritz is 4/11 to win this and we are backing him to do that and to do that quickly. With Basilashvili having not played too much tennis before this tournament it could get tough for him after featuring him a few of these long ones already.
Tip: Fritz to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
