Bouchard Finding Her Groove
After making an underwhelming start to the season with defeats in the Australian Open qualifiers and in the first round of the Lyon Open, Bouchard has finally found some momentum.
The former world number five, who fell off the rankings cliff, has been trying her best to grit her way back into the top 100 and a semifinal here in Mexico should go some way in helping her cause.
Bouchard began the tournament with wins over Caroline Dolehide and Kaja Juvan in the first two rounds and then overcame Caty McNally in the quarterfinals. She won 6-4, 6-3 against the 19-year-old to seal her semifinal berth.
The match lasted an hour and 24 minutes and saw both players earn a few breaks of serves but in the end it was Bouchard’s five breaks to her opponent’s three that saw her seal the deal. Bouchard will now be aiming to make it to another WTA final, following on from doing that in Istanbul in September last season.

Cocciaretto Continues Brilliant Run
Having won just one match all season before this tournament – in the main draw that is – Cocciaretto has managed to get going in this tournament with three successive victories to make it as far as the semifinal. What makes Cocciaretto’s run to the last four even more special is she is yet to drop a set.
While she was expected to get past Xiyu Wang in her opener, a stunning 7-5, 7-5 win over the top seeded Nadia Podoroska helped her make it to the quarterfinals. And in the last eight stage, Cocciaretto ran off to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Lauren Davis, in a match lasting an hour and 12 minutes.
The two players exchanged breaks of serve early in the first set and Cocciaretto then saved four break-points in the fifth game after that. When Davis equalised for 3-3 in the next game, little would have anyone thought that was the last game she would win in the entire match.
Cocciaretto won the next nine successive games to complete the rout in a contest that had promised a lot.
Bouchard v Cocciaretto Prediction and Tip
Both players ranked so close to each other and in good form, makes for a compelling contest here and expecting it to go into a third set.
Tip: Three sets in the contest: 11/8 (bet365)
