Garin Getting into Rhythm
After a poor start to the season, Garin has finally looked a part in this tournament so far, although we say that with a touch of caution given the quality of opposition he has faced so far.
After losing back to back matches at the Delray Beach Open and Buenos Aires, both openers for Garin after having gotten a first round bye, the Chilean has managed to come back into his own with successive straight-set wins. He wasn’t tested at all by Alejandro Tabilo in the previous round and while he needed an hour and 35 minutes in the quarterfinal, Garin managed to register a straight-set win over Juan Pablo Varillas to seal his semifinal berth.
It wasn’t the cleanest of wins for Garin, who was broken twice in the match but retaliated with four breaks of his own, coming back from a break down in both the sets to make it past his opponent.
The difference between the two players proved to be their first serve percentage, with Garin getting 71% of them in, winning three-fourths of them. Garin will now hope he can slowly move towards handling the clutch points slightly better too, after he conceded eight break-point opportunities to his opponent.

Galan Moves to Career-Best
Ranked 121st at the start of the tournament and having never gotten better than 115th in the world before, Galan will go into the next week with a career-best ranking of 112th. And that’s even if he loses his semifinal to Garin.
And more than just the change in ranking, Galan will be specially pleased with making it as far as the semifinal, which is his first ever such result since the ATP Houston in 2019, nearly two years ago.
Galan, who had come into this tournament with just one main draw win this season – in Delray Beach in January – had featured in four Challenger competitions as well. He had won two matches there, and then lost in the first round of the Cordoba Open, resulting in an underwhelming set of results before the Chile Open.
For him to then defeat Daniel Altmaier, Pablo Andujar and Roberto Carballes Baena, all of whom were favourites coming into the match, has been against the run of play.
Can he now do it one more time?
Garin v Galan Prediction and Tip
It’s 4/9 for a Garin win here, and 11/10 for him to do that in straight sets. While we are still backing Garin to win this, we believe Galan could have that something special to make the workout difficult for the Chilean.
Tip: Games Handicap Galan +3.5: 5/6 (bet365)
