Marton Fucsovics v Vasek Pospisil Head to Head

The pair have met twice before, and their head-to-head record stands at one win apiece. Both matches took place in Paris but at separate events. Pospisil won on clay at the French Open in 2018 in straight sets, but Fucsovics got his revenge in three sets in the Paris Masters last November.

Rotterdam Finalist Fucsovics Hoping for Fitness

Fucsovics has been in fine form so far this year, beginning in Melbourne, where he reached the third round before losing to another Canadian, Milos Raonic, in four sets.

He was forced to enter the qualifying competition in Rotterdam but, not only did he sail through that, he went all the way to the final, beating Borna Coric along the way, before he was finally defeated by Andrey Rublkev.

Last week in Doha, he began with another good win over Dusan Lajovic of Serbia, and then came from a set down to beat Lloyd Harris of South Africa.

That earned him a re-match with Rublev but he was forced to withdraw from that match in advance with a lower back injury, giving the Russian the distinction of becoming the first man in tour history to reach the semi-finals of an event without hitting a ball in anger.

His ability to progress in Dubai may depend on how well he has recovered from that injury.

Pospisil Hoping to Rediscover Sofia Form

Pospisil reached the final in the last event of 2020 in Sofia, losing to Jannik Sinner after a tough battle that was decided by a third set tie-break.

However, he did not play again until the Australian Open, where he became one of those players who made the trip to Melbourne and endured the two weeks’ quarantine, only to lose in the first round, beaten in straight sets by the world number four, Daniil Medvedev.

After a further month off he returned in Doha last week, where he beat the Australian Christoper O’ Connell in the first round.

He then had an all-Canadian battle with Dennis Shapovalov, and lost a close two set battle, There were only two breaks of serve in the match, and both went to Shapovalov, with Pospisil rarely looking like breaking himself.

Fucsovics v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

Much may depend on how well Fucsovics has recovered from his back injury. If he is fit again, then he is tipped to win, although it might be tight.

Tip: Fucsovics to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
