Roberto Bautista Agut v Matthew Ebden Head to Head
Bautista Agut leads 2-0 head to head, winning on grass court of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2014 and on the hard court of Sofia in 2019. The latter was their only three set affair, that saw the Spaniard fight back after losing the first set.

Bautista Agut Aiming For a Second Title in Dubai
World No. 11 Roberto Bautista Agut will begin his quest for a second Dubai title on Tuesday. The 2018 champion, who received a first–round bye, comes into the tournament in solid form, having finished runner-up in Doha last week.
Starting with wins over Reily Opelka and Alexander Bublik in the first two rounds, the 32-year-old Spaniard upset fourth seed Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinal and Alexander Rublev in the semifinal to reach a second final this season. However, a title remained elusive as he went down to Nikoloz Basilashvili in the title clash.
Last month, the former World No. 9 had reached the final in Montpellier, beating Gregoire Barrere in the Round of 16, Ugo Humbert in the quarterfinal and Peter Gojowczyk in the semifinal. But he failed to win a 10th title, falling to David Goffin in the final.
The Spaniard is 8-6 this year. He won just one of his matches at the ATP Cup and was knocked out of the Australian Open by Radu Albot in the first round.
An 18-time ATP finalist, Bautista Agut won last of his nine titles in Doha in 2019. He won the Dubai title in 2018 by beating Lucas Pouille in the final.
Since the title success, the 2018 Wimbledon semifinalist lost in the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships in 2019 and in the first round last year.

Ebden in Form, But There Are Questions Over His Fitness
Facing Bautista Agut in the second round will be unseeded Aussie Matthew Ebden, who also received a first-round bye.
The 33-year-old South African-born right-hander was in terrific form himself last week, reaching the semifinal in Marseille, which allowed him to climb 66 places in the rankings to reach No. 221 on Monday.
A former Australian Open mixed doubles champion, Ebden is 6-3 this year. He also reached the quarterfinals in Singapore last month by winning his first two rounds before falling to eventual champion Alexei Popyrin.
In Marseille last week, the former top 40 player qualified for the main draw by beating Frederico Ferreira Silva and Matthias Bougue in the qualifiers before pulling off a stunning come-from-behind victory over France’s Benjamin Bonzi in the first round.
He had a relatively easy Round of 16 against Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori, where he won in straight sets, but had to rally from a set down once again in the quarterfinal before upsetting third seed Karen Khachanov in three.
The win made him the lowest ranked player (he was 287 last week) in the tournament history to qualify for the semifinal, where he met Daniil Medvedev.
Against the Russian, Ebden trailed 4-6, 0-3 before having to pull out with an injury. It will be interesting to see if he has recovered completely for Tuesday’s match or if he continues to feel the effects of Saturday’s injury.
Previously, Ebden has played in one singles final in Newport in 2017 and has made the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters on two occasions.
Bautista Agut v Ebden Prediction and Tip
Bautista Agut will be the favourite to win this contest. He is in great form and will have his eyes set on another deep run. Ebden is in form as well, and if he has recovered well, he will give the Spaniard a tough fight.
Tip: Bautista Agut to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
