Aljaz Bedene v Yuki Bhambri Head to Head

This will be the first match between Bedene and Bhambri.

Bedene 3-3 This Season

It has been bit of a mixed start for Bedene this year, after kick-starting 2021 at the Great Ocean Road Open where he made the third round. His loss at the hands of Jannik Sinner was on expected lines but that was followed by two ordinary performances.

At the Australian Open, he fell in four sets to Alexander Bublik and then while he avenged that loss to Sinner by edging him out in a third set tie-breaker at the Montpellier Open first round, Bedene lost out on a deeper run when he went down to Egor Gerasimov in the second.

Interestingly, Bedene, who had made it to the quarterfinals in Doha last year, is making his first ever appearance at the Dubai Open. Can he make his debut count, especially because it’s coming against a player who has been out of action for more than two years before this?

Bhambri Beats Two Indians to Make Main Draw

Tennis is still growing in India in recent times and while Bhambri has been around for a while now, he has been overtaken by the likes of Sumit Nagal and Prajnesh Gunneswaran in recent times because of his own fitness issues.

For him to then come through the qualifiers by first beating Gunneswaran in the opening round of the qualifiers and then overcoming another Indian Ramkumar Ramanathan, would have been particularly satisfying.

Bhambri, who last played in competitive tennis in 2018 before this season, missing out two years because of injuries, made a comeback at the Singapore Open earlier this year. He lost to Matt Ebden in the opening round there but put up a strong fight and dished out a hope the 28-year-old would be a force to reckon in Indian tennis for the foreseeable future.

For now though, Bhambri has a task on his hands as he takes on the experience of Bedene.

Bedene v Bhambri Prediction and Tip

Bedene is 1/2 to win this and while we back him to get past a player who had been missing from action for a while, Bhmabri could give his opponent a scare here as he continues on from the solid performance in the qualifiers.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
