Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Radu Albot Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between Fokina, who is ranked 52nd in the world and lucky loser Albot.

Fokina Climbing up the Charts
Spain’s Fokina is one good tournament away from breaking into the top 50 and may be even the top 40. Will this be that tournament, after having made successive decent starts this season but not gone deep enough.
The first two he played were Challengers after missing out on the Australian Open but then made it to the quarterfinal of the Montpellier Open in what was his first ATP competition of the season.
A second round appearance at both Rotterdam and Marseille might have been decent results had those losses come at the hands of a top-20 player for instance, but defeats against Marton Fucsovics and Arthur Rinderknech would have been difficult to take.
He now starts off this tournament against who should be a less than tricky opponent but with the kind of record under his belt this year, Fokina would love to get back down to the basics and carve out an early win.

Albot Surprise Loser in Qualifiers
That Albot made it to the main draw of this tournament as a lucky loser is surprising given the kind of form he had shown earlier.
The Moldovan player had been expected to come through the qualifiers anyway, having earlier made it as far as the third round at the Australian Open for starters and then becoming a losing semifinalist in Singapore.
Before that, however, the former world number 39 Albot had shown signs of erratic form when he fell in the first round at both, the Antalya Open and Murray River Open. He had lost to Jeremy Chardy and Federico Coria before the rest of his run in Australia.
With his opponent also not at his most confident best, can Albot carve out as a surprise as a lucky loser?
Fokina v Albot Prediction and Tip
Fokina is 1/2 to win this but expect Albot to put up a brave fight and we expect him to take a set off his opponent here.
Tip: Albot to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (bet365)
