Having produced his best-ever result at a Grand Slam in the U.S. Open last year, Jordan Thompson hoped to bring the 2020 season ending confidence to his home swing Down Under earlier this year.
It was a good outing for the Aussie at the Melbourne ATP 250 where he made the final eight, with some promising victories en route against the like of Pierre-Hugues Herbert, before a straight sets loss against the in-form Brazilian Thiago Monteiro brought his tournament to an end.
Facing the up and rising Norwegian Next Gen star Casper Ruud at the Aussie Open, it was a disappointing straight set loss for Thompson, winning only seven games though. Thompson has not played since the Australian swing of the season, but is rested and refreshed and will be hoping for a good run here on the Dubai hard courts.

Ruusuvuori Looking To Further His ’21 Season
21-year old Finn Emil Ruusuvuori has had a good run in the past few months, breaking into the top 100 of the ATP rankings, currently ranked number 87 in the world.
Kicking off the season at the Antalya Open, Ruusuvuori made the round of 32 and did the same at the ATP 250 in Melbourne. He made the second round at the Aussie Open as well, but if wins against Jiri Vessely and Victor Troicki were impressive earlier on, none was more striking than his five set opening match win at the Melbourne slam against former top ten player Gael Monfils.
The talented Finn did well to defeat Yoshihito Nishioka at Marseille, as well as come through the qualifiers here in Dubai and will be hoping the good starts translate to more success soon.
Thompson v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip
This has the making of a good match, but Thompson has been low on match practice with no play since the Aussie Open. Ruusuvuori has been going from strength to strength and will start as the favorite.
