Ana Bogdan v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

At the highest level, these two have played each other twice before this and both times, the world number 97 Sasnovich managed to carve out a victory. Both those matches came on hard court surfaces and at the qualifying stages of the WTA Moscow and WTA Dubai competitions.

There was one previous match at the ITF level in 2014, which Bogdan had won easily.

Bogdan in Search of Decent Form

She hasn’t won a title on the WTA circuit yet, but the former world number 59 had shown potential on the lower circuit in the early years.

In 2019, in an attempt to regain the form that Bogdan had shown the previous year – having reached the semifinal in Bogota and Monterrey – the Romanian had ended the season with 38 wins to 23 defeats but a lot of those matches had come on the ITF tour.

2020 was beset with the pandemic and Bogdan barely won a main draw match. She reached the quarterfinal in Prague courtesy a win and a walkover and made it as far as the second round in Roland-Garros.

Which is why a second round appearance at both, the Yarra Valley Classic and Phillip Island Trophy, which included a win over Anastasija Sevastova should do bolster her flagging confidence. The question now is if she can push on in this tournament.

Sasnovich’s in Slightly Better Rhythm

Barring her opening round defeat at the Australian Open to the seeded player Anett Kontaveit, Sasnovich has done well to win a round at each of the four other tournaments she has played in.

Unfortunately for her, the second round defeats at all but one of those four competitions, have come at the hands of players who had gone into the encounter as second favourites according the bookmakers. Her three-set loss at the hands of Gabriella Da Silva Fick at the Phillip Island Trophy especially would have hurt, having come against a player ranked outside the top 450.

Sasnovich, however, has shown bit of an upswing in recent times, especially since the resumption of tennis following the pandemic break. As a qualifier, she made it as far as the quarterfinal of the Palermo Open, entered round three in the US Open, and was a quarterfinalist at both, the Istanbul Open and Linz Open.

With these results under her belt and with her opponent struggling to get a move on in recent times, Sasnovich could start off as bit of a favourite.

Bogdan v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Sasnovich has beaten Bogdan both times they have faced off while also having gotten a few better results than the Romanian player in recent times. She starts off as bit of a favourite here.

Tip: Sasnovich to win: 8/11 (bet365)
