Taylor Fritz v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head
The pair met just a few days ago in the semi-finals of the Doha Open and it was the Georgian who upset the odds to win in straight sets. Fritz had won their previous match on the senior tour in Chengdu in 2017.

Although Fritz may have lost his semi-final to Basilashvili in Qatar last week, he can still take satisfaction from wat was his best run in any event since the sport returned after lockdown last August, especially as he beat both David Goffin and Denis Shapovalov, both in three sets, in the course of that run.
That tournament was his first since the Australian Open , where he reached the third round for the third successive year, matching his previous best at any Grand Slam event.
He eventually lost to Novak Djokovic, but not before putting up a creditable fight against the world number one. The Serb took a two set lead, but Fritz refused to bow out meekly, and fought back to level the match. However, Djokovic then showed why he is a champion by finding another gear in the fifth and deciding set.

Basilashvili Surprise Winner in Doha
The Georgian arrived in Doha last week in terrible form, having won just two of his previous matches.
Yet, he defied all expectations, including his own, by going onto win the tournament, his fourth senior ATP title, and his first since the Hamburg European Open in 2019.
Arguably the highlight of his week was the quarter-final when he ended Roger Federer’s comeback to the sport, triumphing after saving a match point.
That win then gave him the confidence to go on and beat Fritz in their semi-final, and then defeat the Spaniard Roberto Batuitsa-Agut in the final.
The man from Spain began the match the heavy favourite, having beaten both Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev, but Basilashvili took the first set on a tie break, and then eased to victory in the second.
The question is how much gas does he have left in the tank for Dubai?
Fritz v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip
This match is very hard to predict, given that the played so recently. Much may depend on his exploits in Doha took out of the Georgian.
Fritz may start the slight favourite but it could be close.
