Eugenie Bouchard v Lin Zhu Head to Head

Both their two meetings came in 2018 with Bouchard winning the two. The first was held at the Taipei Open on an indoor hard-court surface and Bouchard was up 2-0 in the final set when Zhu retired from the encounter.

This was followed by a second match at the 2018 Wimbledon qualifiers where Bouchard registered a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Bouchard Coming off A WTA Final Appearance

Bouchard looks to have begun her ascent on the WTA circuit having reached a world ranking of 116th following her showing at the WTA Guadalajara performance where she reached the final.

With wins over Kaja Juvan, Caty McNally and Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the tournament, Bouchard gained a lot of confidence and quite a few ranking points to jump up to 116th in the world. This was also Bouchard’s second entry into the final of a competition since August 2020.

To give a context of how drastically her form seems to have changed hands, Bouchard hadn’t entered the final of any WTA competitions in the four years before this 2020 Istanbul Cup title-decider either.

The Canadian and former Wimbledon finalist had earlier begun the year having failed to qualify for the Australian Open and then with a first round loss at the hands of Aliaksandra Sasnovich at the Lyon Open.

Zhu in Form Struggle Since 2020

While a lot of players struggled to get going in the second half of 2020 because of the issues around the pandemic, especially because of the lack of practice during the lockdown, Zhu’s issues in the season came in the first part.

Since making it to the final of an ITF event in Hong Kong, Zhu participated in five WTA and one WTA $125k event and won five and lost six matches in them. Post the lockdown, Zhu didn’t feature in a single tournament all season.

And that underwhelming form has carried forward in 2021 as well, where Zhu has won just three of the nine matches she has played. Only two of these wins came in main draws of events while three of the tournaments have seen Zhu crash out in the first round while in the remaining three, Zhu made it to the second round.

Now, up against a player in form, it’s difficult to see how Zhu would be able to overturn her poor record since the start of 2020.

Bouchard v Zhu Prediction and Tip

Bouchard looks to be in line for a straightforward victory here and she is a solid 8/15 to do that as well.

Tip: Bouchard to win: 8/15 (bet365)
