Felix Auger-Aliassime v Sebastian Korda Head to Head

There have been no previous matches played between the 18th-ranked Auger-Aliassime and the world number 92 Korda.

Auger-Aliassime Thwarts Late Tennys Resistance

While the match was over in two sets, Auger-Aliassime needed to bring out his full ammunition to get past another American Tennys Sandgren in his opening round match. The Canadian took an hour and 44 minutes to get himself a 6-3, 7-6 (8) victory and make it to the round of 16 here for the second year in running.

There wasn’t too much to choose between the two players. They started with an exchange of breaks in the first set before the most decisive game of the entire match came in the eighth when serving at 3-4, Sandgren was broken easily.

Auger-Aliassime served out for the first set, raked up three match-points before winning the set on the second.

The Canadian then broke Sandgren in the opening game of the second set as well and got himself into a position to serve for the match. That didn’t work out as Sandgren broke back in the 10th game, and then came back from 0-3 and 2-5 down to stall Auger-Aliassime on four match-points.

It off the fifth that Auger-Aliassime converted it and sealed the second round berth. He enters this match on the back of a first round loss in Rotterdam last week following on from a final at the Murray River Open and a fourth round exit at the Australian Open.

Korda Sends Out Cilic

Marin Cilic’s poor form has been a talking point for a while, and such has been the issue that Korda had actually gone into their first round match as a favourite. It’s one thing, however, to be a favourite on paper and quite another to deliver the result, something that Korda managed to do in their opener.

Korda won 7-5, 6-2 in an hour and 41 minutes, in a match where both players got ample opportunities to break the other. It was Korda who made full use of the nine chances he got, breaking his opponent a whopping six times in the entire match as opposed to saving 12 of the 15 chances Cilic got.

In the first set, Korda recovered from 5-2 down to win five games in a row to seal the deal, while the second set began with five successive breaks of serve. It was only when Korda held on in the sixth game that it looked like things were finally moving in his direction and he reeled off two more games to complete the win.

The American has already made it to one ATP final earlier this year, having notched up a runnerup trophy in Delray Beach and followed it up with a title win at the Quimper Challenger. Can he throttle his Canadian opponent in this one?

Auger-Aliassime v Korda Prediction and Tip

While Auger-Aliassime starts off a 4/7 favourite in this one, we think this could go the distance. Expecting a three-setter between these two talented players.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
