Katerina Siniakova v Margarita Gasparyan Head to Head

At the highest level, they have played each other twice and both players have won one apiece including their latest encounter at the 2019 Eastbourne Open where Gasparyan won in straight sets.

A few years ago, they had also played a match at the ITF level that went in favour of the Frenchwoman.

Siniakova Sends Flipkens Packing

Siniakova hasn’t had a great record for this season so far, having entered this season on the back of a 1-4 win-loss ratio all year. Which is why, while she was a favourite to overcome Kirsten Flipkens in her opener, Siniakova might not have been at her most confident self.

Or so one thought anyway.

Because the manner in which Siniakova disposed off Flipkens it didn’t seem like here was a player struggling all season.

Needing an hour and four minutes to wrap up the encounter, Siniakova defeated Flipkens 6-1, 6-2 with five breaks of serve all match. On the other hand, Siniakova faced just two break-points and easily saved both of them to come through without breaking into too much of a sweat.

And with another player ranked that low facing her in the second round, it does look like Siniakova could well win back to back matches for the first time since last year’s French Open.

Gasparyan Avenges Mladenovic Loss

Gasparyan had walked into this tournament having made as far as the second round only one in the season, and that had come at the Lyon Open two weeks ago. Gasparyan had defeated Katarina Zavatska there only to lose Kristina Mladenovic.

The stark difference in their rankings and the recent result which had gone in favour of Mladenovic meant Gasparyan had gone into their opening round clash as a second favourite by some distance.

A quick exchange of service breaks in the middle of the opening set led into the tie-breaker which Mladenovic eased herself to a win.

However, just when one thought the confidence from the opening set win would fuel Mladenovic yet again and help her register an easy victory, Gasparyan broke her opponent six more times to carve a relatively easy three-set win.

Her opponent for this second round match isn’t the best either and Gasparyan will believe she has a chance in this

Siniakova v Gasparyan Prediction and Tip

While Siniakova is a favourite at 4/6 to win this, Gasparyan could cause a flutter here. Backing her to overcome Siniakova.

Tip: Gasparyan to win: 6/5 (bet365)
