Rublev 23-0 in ATP 500s….

Andrey Rublev has been in phenomenal form of late, winning five titles in 2020, making his first ever Tour Finals and breaking into the top eight of the ATP rankings.

He continued his strong run of form at the start of the season too, leading Russia to the finals of the ATP Cup, and was in ominous form at the Australian Open, until the quarter-finals where he ran into compatriot Daniil Medvedev and lost in straight sets.

The Russian added to his title count at Rotterdam winning another ATP 500 defeating Marton Fucsovics in the final. With a first round bye and two walkovers last week in Doha, he looked destined for another title, but was eclipsed in straight sets in the semi-finals by Roberto Bautista Agut.

Rublev ensured he addressed any concerns around his form or fitness coming to Dubai with convincing straight set wins against Emil Ruusuvuori and Taylor Fritz here this week, dropping only eight games against the former and making a statement dropping only four games against the in-form American, Fritz.

Running into Fucsovics yet again this week, in the quarter-finals, Rublev was pushed in the first set as he narrowly clinched it 7-5. There was no looking back thereafter, with another clinical set of tennis with two breaks of serve assisting Rublev clinch it 6-2 and making the semi-finals of an ATP 500 again.

Rublev has now won 23 matches in a row at ATP 500s and is yet to drop a set this week, and is looking good for a ninth career title and a fifth ATP 500 in a row.

Karastev Validates His Aussie Open Run

Playing in his first ever Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open, Russian Aslan Karatsev had a magical run, making the semi-finals defeating the likes of Diego Schwartzman, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Grigor Dimitrov before falling at the hands of world number one and eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Karatsev’s spectacular run saw him become an overnight star on the tour as his ranking went up more than 100 places from being a qualifier ranked in the top 150 in the world to within the top 40 right now.

Last week in Doha, where he played the qualifiers of the Aussie Open in January, Karatsev made an exit in the second round, but not before he played  2020 US Open winner Dominic Thiem and took a set off him eventually losing in a decider.

Coming to Dubai, he was off to a convincing straight sets win against Belarusian Egor Gerasimov, but has since come up with three wins in deciders against seeded players all in good touch, i.e. Dan Evans, Lorenzo Sonego, and Jannik Sinner.

On all occasions, Karatsev has managed to raise his game with the pressure on in the final set and returned serve with conviction to put the brakes on his opponent. The Russian has definitely proved that he is here to stay and will now look to go a step further here in Dubai.

Rublev v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

An exciting showdown between both Russians in form awaits. While Rublev has outstretched all imagination with his phenomenal run, Karatsev has been the surprise of the year.

Some good tennis ahead in this match and Karatsev will definitely trouble Rublev, but the younger Russian has been on a run and that will continue. Rublev to win in two tight sets.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 4/7 (bet365)
