Tsitsipas Edges Out Auger-Aliassime
Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas edged out Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in a thrilling quarterfinal on Thursday to reach his third semifinal of the year.
The Tsitsipas-Auger-Aliassime matchup, which is fast turning into a fascinating rivalry, lived up to its expectations as the two players went toe-to-toe before the Greek player finally edged ahead for a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win.
The two hours and four minutes contest saw Tsitsipas land 70 percent of his first serves and win 76 percent of them. He also won 53 percent of total points in the match; saved one of the three break points he faced; and converted all three of his break opportunities to win his third consecutive match against the Canadian and take a 3-2 head-to-head lead.
The win also improved Tsitsipas to 13-3 this year. The 6’4” right-hander had begun the season at the ATP Cup, winning both his singles matches, and then gone on to reach back-to-back semifinals at the Australian Open and the Rotterdam Open.
He also reached the last eight in Marseille last week, but the two-time defending champion was stopped from advancing further by surprise finalist Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
A five-time winner on the tour, Tsitsipas will be aiming to reach a 13th career final on Friday.
The Greek, who began the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 win over France’s Benoit Paire, had beaten America’s John Isner in the Round of 16, defeating the American 6-3, 6-2 in under an hour.

Musetti’s Stunning Run Continues
Facing Tsitsipas in the semifinal will be Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti who knocked out the 2014 Acapulco champion Grigor Dimitrov in the last quarterfinal on Thursday.
The 19-year-old qualifier needed seven match points to win the two-hour-and-nine-minute contest 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and enter his first ATP 500 semifinal.
Last year, Musetti had reached his first ATP 250 semifinal, when he entered the final four in Sardinia.
Ranked 120th in the world, Musetti who had played just eight main draw matches previously, showed exceptional stamina and resilience as he knocked out the World No. 16 on Thursday to win his sixth match in as many days.
Having begun the week with a three-set win over Mexico’s Juan Alejandro Hernandez Serrano in the first qualifying round, Musetti eased into the main draw with straight set wins over Argentina’s Agustin Velloti and Portugal’s Frederico Silva in the next two qualifying rounds.
In the main draw, the Italian got his first career top 10 win as he stunned third seed Diego Schwartzmann 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in the first round and then endured another tough three-setter before knocking out America’s Frances Tiafoe in the Round of 16.
Stefanos Tsitsipas v Lorenzo Musetti Prediction and Tip
Tsitsipas will be the favourite to advance to the final but he won’t take his opponent lightly, as Musetti has grown in confidence and exhibited his giant-killing ability through the tournament.
The Italian will be a bit exhausted though having had to play three draining matches following the three qualifiers in the lead-up to the semifinal. But the incentive of a first career final will be enough motivation for him to give his all. Expect a good match, with Tsitsipas ending the Italian’s dream run in a closely fought two-set contest.
Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match 5/6 (bet365)
