A knee injury for Linette made it difficult to kick-start things off this season, and having nearly missed the first three months, she will finally feature in her first match of the year.
Linette didn’t have the best end to the previous season either. The Polish world number 49 followed up her third round appearance at the Australian Open with two wins and four defeats after that, including a three-match losing streak which saw her lose at the Strasbourg Open, French Open and the WTA Linz.
This followed what seemed to be a solid start to her season when Linette had gone on to win the Hua Hin Open title in Thailand. At the Fed Cup just before that she had won all three of her singles matches as well, giving her an eight-match winning streak.
Having not played in over four months now, Linette could take time to get moving again and that could give her opponent bit of an advantage here.

Montgomery
Just 17 years of age, Montgomery will be playing in what will be only her second main draw match at the highest level after making her WTA debut at the US Open last season as a wildcard.
While she lost to Yulia Putintseva in the first round there, she followed it up with back to back quarterfinals in two ITF competitions and then made it to the final of another ITF competition in November in Orlando.
Earlier this year, Montgomery had won her first ever ITF title in Las Vegas, and with the kind of record she had as a 17-year-old in such a curtailed season, it does look like it should be a matter of when not if she wins a main draw match soon.
In fact, going up against a player who hasn’t played in months could be a very good chance for her to get things moving in her young career.

Linette might be a favourite on paper but that comes with its own risk against an eager and talented youngster. We expect this to be a win for Montgomery.
